    MP3 virus alert.

Posting in here because i thought that more people would be made aware of this virus rather than in the software or internet forums

ne ways, theres a relatively new virus out there which can corrupt all mp3 files. I know lots of people these days store a stack of mp3s on their system whichis why i am posting this. More information about this virus can be found here . Sorry if this has been posted before

if the "Genre" field has "Trance" selected it will then release its payload and corrupt the music file at 15 second intervals
I don't listen to trance so im safe

I've always said record companys will Stop file sharing by flooding every service with viruses......It's the only logical way for them to stop it....
I think this was made by somebody who hates Trance Music tho....

I don't understand why it would attempt to unistall other worms.....
    maybe its selfish...

Is this a "virus" or a hoax?

Neither MacAfee nor Symantec seem to be aware of it. Nor does Viruslist.

Discovery date 30/3/2003. The site quoted shows "Last Updated on: March 31, 2004 9:17:09 PM ". That is SUSPICIOUSLY close to April 1st.

No guarantees, but methinks you lot have been had.

    PREVENTION

The best way to protect yourself is to set your MP3 files to be read-only so that the worm may not make modifications to them.

does look like bs from the site address..

    edit

and thats the ONLY site google finds when you search for

    "W32/Transe.1999@mm" utter bs

that will do a base folder.

    attrib +r /s /d *.mp3 will recurse all subfolders.
