Which colleges are you thinking of applying to (which is, of course, a far more important question than which course )?

Jesus college. Purely because of the student accommodation being awesome - they hire it out at easter holidays and we stayed there for a night or 2 -, my grandfather went there, and we have a family friend who is a lecturer there. You went to Cambridge? What did you study then? I quite like maths though, it's my strongest subject so I wouldn't mind doing a bit of it

I presuem you mean quantum mechanics? They put it in to get it out of the way and seperate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. You never need to use it afterwards (if you're lucky).

I thought biology was highly dependent on stats to be able to prove any theory?

I think there was a clue in my post

And, having borked my Chem, they wouldn't let me change course, and of course tripos has no resits, so I went away and did other things instead.

You'll get to do some maths whatever you choose, as there's a simple Maths for Biologists course (which I passed, incidentally ). Chemistry was good fun though - except the bits with too much maths, that is.

Jesus, Jesus.... hmmm - I think I went to formal dinner at Jesus with some mates once. Nice enough college. I was at Sidney myself, very convenient. Magdalen is a lovely place, too. I'd strongly recommend (although I accept that, being in Scotland, you might not be able to) that you try to have a couple of days in Cambridge some time over the summer and have a proper look around a few of the colleges - your choice of college can make all the difference to how enjoyable you find your time there...

    Re: Exams start tomorrow...

Unless you do Medicine, in which case you get to resit 3 times (not that I'm bitter about my friend who failed his Anatomy when I failed my Chemistry, yet he ended up graduating in Anatomy while I got kicked out).

There is no resit in tripos, but that only applies if you fail overall, which is very difficult to do (I had quite a few issues when I was at Cambridge). A few extra percent in each of my other subjects and I would've been OK, as it was I failed my Chemistry and that dropped me 2% below the pass mark. No resit, out on my rear.

    Unlucky
My brain is good at remembering facts and doing maths, I reckon I'll be ok but thanks your advice, has made me realise that if you fail, thats it.

Anyway! I have to get an A tomorrow first

You might not need it (I got in with AAB in my main A-Levels), but I hope you do get it! Good luck!

    Re: Exams start tomorrow...

But I do those exams next year, those are advanced highers. I want to apply with 5 As in Highers to be honest, they are a little below A-level and adv. highers are harder than A-levels.

I did a combo of Int 2s and Standard Grades too - didn't really notice which ones were easier at Higher though!

Thats my exam done though, 90.1% - I reckon that'll scrape a pass!

Going home from work now. But I just thought I'd say good luck to all you who have exams coming up. Be they GCSE, A Levels or Uni degrees.

I, however, passed my GSCEs way back in 1988. That was the first year that they came out. Replacing O-Levels & CSEs.
