    Snowy weather.... Do your bit.

    All,

    While It's cold and snowy - could I make sure that any of you with Elderly Neighbours or Relatives that you're checking on them... Making sure they've got enough supplies and are warm enough.

    They are especially vulnerable at times like these. A little seasonal goodwill goes a long way.

    (Mine are all fine... esp the elserly cat who is more interested in the radiator than fud at the moment...)

    Thanks all... I like to think that we're not just an Online community...

    T x

    Helped dig out my neighbours drive today so they could get out, was a lot of work but worth it as most of the people on the street chipped in

    Re: Snowy weather.... Do your bit.

    Got an old neighbour at the end of our garden, Eddie, he's and old war vetran and everytime i see him he's got different bruises from falling out of bed and wot not. He has family but not around here so i'm always calling round to see if he's ok, more so now in this weather.
    He's really good with the kids in the summer so it's the least i can do although it means i'm usually stuck there for a good 30 mins finding out about his bunions or war stories, the war stories i dont mind!

    Re: Snowy weather.... Do your bit.

    Spent the last couple of days trying to clear and salt the 'hill' on one end of the street. Got a hand from a couple of m8's. Lots of old people use this street as virtually no traffic on it. Already had to take one old dear to hospital after she fell going down the hill . Council have their priorities keeping the 'school' roads clear for the buses (no buses as school's shut) so side roads not touched. Got to dig another 'biddies' car out tomorrow as her hubby fell on the ice yesterday and hurt his back.

    I did my shopping for my gran, and am visiting her every few days. Don't really know many elderly people apart from that? people living around me and quite young and i dont really know them as just moved into the area over the last year.

    Still helping people i guess gives you a warm feeling inside on this cold winter nights.

    I rang the gramps a couple of days ago to see how they were doing. As usual they have enough food in the fridge and freezer to feed five thousand.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: Snowy weather.... Do your bit.

    Excellent post, Tigg.

    My mother-in-law is getting on, and on her own. Her neighbours have been fantastic, and not just in the snow. Not just neighbours, either. Her village butcher offered to deliver, and to pick up other things she might need, first. Hell, her gardener (comes in for a couple of hours every couple of weeks) rang her, out of the blue, last week and asked if everything was okay, and did she need any shopping done? Now that is real community spirit.

    Re: Snowy weather.... Do your bit.

    I got home the other night around 2.30am, made a coffee and thought tomorrow i'll go over to the grit bin across the road and spread some around mine/neighbours gates as ice is building up, around 3am that night i heard some loud banging, looked out the window and to my surprised saw 3 lads nabbing all the grit, from what i could see they were loading it straight into the boot.

    This has happened for 3 years running, no grit again, and i bet they weren't local, probably bagging it up and selling it on.... I guess someone just doesn't want me to do my part!

    Yosh, this happens all the time nowadays. Council's don't seem to have the 'resource's' to go round filling these grit bins as often as they did in times gone bye.
