Thanks for the thoughts guys, after all the users make the forum what it is and it's nice to let the admins know what we all think. Please though can we keep the discussion on-topic in this thread. There's plenty of other threads for jokey behaviour and though I appreciate Donny John's "ROFL" post above was (hopefully) intended to be ironic (but I'm not sure), there are other threads better suited to ironic posts about spam.

I feel that if we are to make a decision, the best time to do so is in the first week or so after the nuke so everyone will be more or less equal and people won't get annoyed at losing a Post Count that may be important to them. I'd certainly go with hiding the post count in the thread view window, leaving it solely in a user's profile. It seemed to work well on other forums such as Ixyl.

The spam whores soon realise they can only be judged on the content of their posts rather than the volume of them

How about this.....

Someone is allowed custom text after being with hexus for a month. They are allowed an avatar after being with hexus for 3 months and having a post count of atleast 50. Also take post counts from immediate view but have a breakdown of posts in a persons profile e.g.
Posts in Computer Hardware and overclocking: 34
Posts in Apple Juice: 2
etc.

This would not only indicate if the person was a spammer (high counts in general discussion etc) but it would also indicate what that persons interests are and give you an idea about them (isnt this what profiles are for?).

How about...post counts are displayed but you get a custom avatar / title with 0 posts, there is therefore no need for people (nameing no names...) to spam to get 100/500 posts for a custom avatar, but will still keep some sense of those who have been around longer etc, admittedly some will still post pointless one liners just to up their post count, but no system is going to be perfect, and it would be possible for moderators to delete posts / reduce post count of those who it is shockingly blatent (nameing no names...) that that is what they are doing.
