Just watching the newsnight item on this and I have to say I am shocked, those responsible should go to prison and I really hope they do.

Keeper of the Gates of Hell
I'm shocked and appaulled, this is a complete outrage, am I the only one able to see the horror is happening here. We must do somethign to stop this devalueation of the term hacked.
These runts mearly cracked or socially engineered their way in, none being new or original.
I'll SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY GK.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
I agree mate, its not hacking unless you use an axe, right?
back on topic, nothing suprises me from these guys, they would dig up corpses if it got them a story.
Ok... unlawfully accessed?
how about we stay on topic instead of having a fight about what hacking is or what cracking is. That argument has about a million pages devoted to it on slashdot already if you really feel the need.
edit : I am clearly in a bad mood so sorry if that sounded arsey. hugs and kisses.

"Free speech includes not only the inoffensive but the irritating, the contentious, the eccentric, the heretical, the unwelcome and the provocative provided it does not tend to provoke violence. Freedom only to speak inoffensively is not worth having."
Absolutely disgraceful behaviour, it amazes that they still get any sales, hope this calamity drives them out of business, I'm not often one to which misfortune on a whole company for the actions of a few but this one is beyond the pale. Hope the whole company crashes and burns as an example to any others who might be inclined to follow the same path.
News Corp will never disappear, mores the pity, but what they did should never of happened, in the least they should be investigated for messing with the case/evidence (if there was any on the phone). Watching the BBC this morning, it was claimed the Police knew the messages were being deleted but never followed it up, so were the police in the know about the messages and decided not to follow it up. I know the PI they hired obviously thought of the money, but then you have to call into question the thought process from the PI and the paper in the first place that thought this was ever a good idea, bad enough normally but in the case of a missing person/presumed dead it's sickening.
I wished though, like ChuckSkull that News Corp would vanish into thin air. If you look at all the papers News Corp pump out and their sites, the news on the Milly messages access, its buried well down in the news reel or in the bowls of the site, with most sites running with crap Cheryl Cole or Prince William stories.
They should face up to the music, granted they are being dragged through the coals over the celeb/pm phone hacking but this is another kettle of fish when it's tampering with an investigation of a murder at the time.
I must admit I thought I'd seen some pretty disgraceful activity by some members of the press, but this is on a new level of obnoxiousness.
According to the BBC last night, the editor when this happened was Murdoch's now UK CEO Rebekah Wade, and her deputy was Cameron's recently departed press guru, Andy Coulson. Of course, there's no evidence (yet) that I'm aware of that either of them knew what was going on, much less were involved, but in the style of Harry Truman, "The buck stops here".
I wonder what implications this has for News International's Sky bid? Because if the public weren't inflamed by the phone hacking when it was just celebs and politicians (for both of whom public sympathy is likely to be a bit muted), this has a phenomenally incendiary implication.
At the very least, the takeover ought to go on hold while a thorough investigation, and preferably public inquiry, takes place into phone hacking. It's about time we got the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on this. And if we don't, it's going to look like Cameron and other leaders (including Ed Milliband) are running scared of crossing Murdoch. Guys, you need to be taking a stand on this. It's far too explosive to keep quiet and pretend it's nothing to do with you. Grow a pair for a change.
Noli nothis permittere te terere.
Interesting point on the Murdoch front, especially with Cameron being close to Murdoch himself. You know for a fact the Government will just work behind the scenes and push the deal through or try to keep as much pressure off them as possible. I really do hope as you say that those in Parliament that oppose the BSkyB/News Corp bid that's taking place really pile on the pressure in Parliament and force the questions to be asked. I do however, fear that Cameron and his whips will approve any deal on the table regardless, most likely put things on hold until the heat dies down and keep it on the quiet.
Maybe a chance for Vince Cable to say "told you so" after his debacle over the Sky deal.
But really, the only thing that will put enough pressure on politicians is the media and too much of that seem to be avoiding crossing Murdoch as well.
Noli nothis permittere te terere.
Can only dream of such a situation, I would love Vince to stand up in Prime Ministers question time and tell them he told them so.
However, as you say, only way of getting to the bottom of this is to keep the pressure on, unfortunately, the media will latch onto the next big story in a matter of hours and the pressure will subside no matter how hard the public demand investigations. This week's question time on the BBC should be interesting, let's see if they censor the questions from the public about it.
Well the PM has spoken http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14024668 Saying all the right things, but he would, let's see him put his money where his mouth is.
