    Calling all men.

    Would you do it?

    http://techcitement.com/culture/the-.../#.T3HKEuzhi4Q

A resounding yes from me, subject to clinical trials. The other half thinks that most men wouldn't want anyone touching their bits. This isn't new news by the way, it's been going around for 20 odd years, but some recent stories flagged it up.

Wired, as ever has a better article http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/0...asectomy/all/1 from last year.

yeah... but male contraception is never going to work as it's not the guy that is getting pregnant.

    "Don't worry love, I've been RISUG'd"...

....? Not really going to fly as far as I'm concerned...

    No, already been snipped.
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

if i had to then yeah that is sounding like the best option! Its looking a bit like a win win really, cheap fast, reversible and other benefits.

Will be interesting to see if this ever gets enough attention!

Sounds like an alternative to a vasectomy but does sod all to prevent STD's, so I'll stick with condoms till I get a regular partner thanks

    Re: Calling all men.

Has the same issues as a vasectomy in that the body may well generate an immune response to the sperm, leaving the man permanently sterile.

    Re: Calling all men.

No suggestion of that in the articles, would obviously hold out for western trials but it sounds promising, I'd give it a try when we get to the point of not wanting any more nippers.

    Re: Calling all men.

Blockage of the vas by whatever means means that the body has to re-absorb the sperm produced. There's plenty of info out there on how the body does this. It's an immune response.

EDIT: My mistake. Not a block of the Vas at all. <ahem> carry on, ignore me.

    Re: Calling all men.

Yeah the point is it doesn't stop the sperm, it just obliterates them via an electric field as they leave so what comes out isn't effective. There really seems to be no issue with immune response, unless you react to the chemicals - and even then you can flush them with what seems to be an injection of baking soda.

Obviously if you're going out on the pull there isn't much point because of the grotty women you might pick up (and for women, vice versa!) require the use of condoms anyway - not to mention people have to take your word for it. Even so, the recommended advice is to use two forms of protection. Condoms are not infallible and there's plenty of opportunity to get sperm where you shouldn't. The failure rate is around 2/100 if you do it right every time, up to 20/100 for non-perfect use.

If you're in a serious relationship and both of you are clean, this seems like something of a boon. Similarly if that hot chick you pull ends up being something more, you could check both of you are clean and then not have to worry about condoms because you've been jabbed.

Point being, in either situation, whether you're still required to use a condom or not, it seems like a no brainer.

    Re: Calling all men.

Too risky for me. Until they have a lot phase 4 trial data showing actual failure and infection rates, I wouldn't risk it. But that's just me. 5 years ago my wife gave birth to our 3rd and 4th kid. Having 4 under 4 was too tough to go through that whole palaver again !
