    Scan Website

Does anyone find it incredibly un-intuitive?

I am having a brief look through for SSDs to work out whether they are something I am interested in buying but after 5-10mins trying to filter for SSDs under £100 I gave up and am doing it on ebuyer & amazon now.

I class myself as very good at web browsing & finding bits and pieces but I was frustrated by scans layout, filters and the amount of clicks i needed to perform to find what i was looking for (or gave up...).

Compared to amazon & ebuyer it is cluttered, unhelpful and has no natural workings to it IMO.

    +1.

When you filter something and it still separates the results via categories you may as well have just opened each category in its own tab.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    re: Scan Website

I had recently looked for parts; at first it was slightly, not so straight forward... But got the hang of it.

But then Cat a.k.a. Moose found me all the parts I needed and kindly gave me the links.

    re: Scan Website

Agreed actually, I always find it a bit more of a hassle to filter things than it should be. Ebuyer, for example, has a much simpler filter method which I find much more productive.

It's still always worth checking Scan's website for things, though.

    re: Scan Website

they filter way to much, they split up sata 2 and 3 and then its split into different sizes, it should just show you ALL and sort by price, then you can pick a category!. And when i say it should show all, i mean all I dont mean how it works currently as its silly, it just shows you all items seperated into their categories like the sata 2 60gb drives seperated from the sata 3 60gb drives in one long page!. Common sense, its quite a poor website now i thought, actually this part of the website has always been poor , to much clutter and filtering without the user being able to decide if he or she actually wants that many different categories...

The filters issue has been brought up many times. There is a post I did in this thread back last year where I highlight some of the issues.

Sadly as much as I like Scan, you're right, the website has some UI issues. I've also found myself on Amazon and Ebuyer simply because navigating them is much easier (although I do try searching for model numbers once I have them back on Scans site).

I've edited the title of this thread to say WEBSITE and NOT Forum.

However, because I'm used to the Scan site more than most I find it easy to use EXCEPT on the SATA II SATA III /size issue

    Re: Scan Website

This is a good point. Scan has lost a lot of sales to me as I was unable to find what I was looking for a compare prices in an easy to see way. Two minutes of furrowed brow and it was off to eBuyer where in two minutes I'd found and paid for whatever I was looking for.

    Re: Scan Website

Agree there, even I get confused with Scan's website, when I was doing a total new build a while back the amount of options for just something as simple as choosing a mATX motherboard for AMD CPU's was next to impossible !

    Re: Scan Website

I'm torn over Scan's site. In some ways I like it - particularly if I'm looking for a specific component as I can generally get to exactly what I want in a couple of clicks. But if I'm browsing for parts in general or trying to do comparisons it can be tricky.

Ebuyer I'm also not sure about, but mostly because of the number of changes they've made to the site over the last ... what, decade? ... I've been using it. They seem to alternate between making changes that kill half of the functionality of the site, then making changes that enhance it again. They also seem to have some issues in product classification - filter terms always seem to include some irrelevant products, exclude some relevant products, or both. There's also a lack of consistency there - monitor resolution being the one that really springs to mind: apparently 1920x1080, 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080 (!?) are three different resolutions? Also, back in the day ebuyer had a "search within these results" option where you could choose a category and filter, then add a search term. That sadly seems to have disappeared now

    Re: Scan Website

I like the OCuk Site (hides) no but really, I found it much easier to use than Scan's. I can find things I'm looking on Scan though. it just takes a lot longer and yes, sometimes in the past I have just stuck with OCuk as it is so much easier to find what you are looking for and price difference is negligible.

however I also seem to be one of few who have had only good things to say about OCuk from having used them for ten or more years.

Scans site is about on par with Aria, The Scan one looks better, but Aria is better functionally. Everything else is miles ahead.

The worst thing is that the Scan site used to be much better, but has been gimped

    Re: Scan Website

I like that Scan has all it's separate categories, I just don't think they stand out enough...The way the navigation menu just runs across columns with lists of sub-sections is messy and makes it harder to navigate. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to simply list the "blue" links and make clicking them expand that section and show you all the "grey" links.

That way, you only have six options pop up when you click "GPU - NVIDIA", rather than a three-column list of every card they make.

    Edit: For example...

New/Hot Seller/Sale would be squashed in somewhere there too.
