Seems Samsung want in on facebook info!

Just checked facebook on my S3 and for some reason I had been logged out, I though at first it was some bug. But then when I logged back in to facebook instead of the news feed, samsung was asking for permission to post on my wall and to use info such as friends birthdays etc.

Has anyone else had this happen who has an S3?

Really don't like that Samsung are able to do that.

Seems like a no brainer - it's scraping more info for the contacts app, e.g. contacts' birthdays. And letting you post to your wall via the Samsung stuff, not the Facebook app.

This is what is looks like after logging in on the fb app on the S3

Contacts app? You can press cancel so it does not do anything, but still how did it log me out? May get rid of fb on my mobile after this! I just want to know its 'legit' ie its from samsung not anything else.

Just spoke to a friend and the same thing has happened to them, but we can't find anything out about it online.

Re: Seems Samsung want in on facebook info!

If it's anything like my HTC One X, there's an additional application running alongside the normal FB app that allows the phone's notifications from FB to work. It also has the side effect of letting Samsung (or HTC) access all your FB data

TBH, I don't allow the app permission, deleted the cached data against the application and carried on browsing FB just fine, and on the plus side, also avoided the automatic sign-in to the FB site every time I clicked on a link from the FB app, so don't send my browsing information back, nor allow third-party websites permission to interact with my data

Which is why more and more apps are asking for data like this. The value of a company such as LinkedIn comes half the time from people giving them their facebook / gmail / hotmail creds.

Excuse me whilst I get my tin foil hat out.

Same for all the manufacturers. I had trouble using the Facebook features on my Sony Ericsson Android phone and it was because I had disabled the Facebook application platform.

I know just use the mobile website, no notifications but it's works just as well as the app.

Re: Seems Samsung want in on facebook info!

I phoned samsung and they just said it was to do with the app maker facebook, but could not answer why it had been allowed. Does anyone else on here who has the facbook app on the galaxy s3 had the same thing as me happen?

Re: Seems Samsung want in on facebook info!

Slightly concerned that its only me and one other person affected. Out of 142 people who have looked at this thread, I thought maybe a few would have had the same issue. My last resort is the email to samsung, which I hope will provide some answers.
