Would like to introduce someone to Star Trek. Besides the obvious (strap to chair in front of TV and play from The Cage through to Endgame) which choice episodes could be used as an introduction to the franchise. Movies could also be included I guess.
I would say a good starting point would be Star Trek 6 Undiscovered Country (Original Cast) and also First Contact (Next Generation)
Both excellent movies with interesting stories that non Trekkies tend to like (my wife likes them)
With the episodes the first TNG episode Encounter at Farpoint is also excellent. Actually, I would start with Next Generation as the original series does look rather dated now and can be REALLY cheesy and off putting. Enterprise is also pretty good as is Voyager and Deep Space Nine is good in its own right with it being a Space Station and no previous Trek knowledge is really needed to enjoy it. If they enjoy Babylon 5 then DS9 could be a good starting point, the first episode Emmisary does tend to drag on a bit though with it being a feature length new series start.

Well they have seen all Star Wars movies (actually liked them!) none of B5 ...
Maybe Encounter at Far Point would be a good one, had that on my to show list. STVI, hmmm interesting choice. Didn't they release a teaser for TNG on Blu-Ray with some episodes?
Kirk died in Generations which he was on a bridge ... Don't remember him falling off it though, more shot.

Yeah, the wife loved B5. All of it. Well, except for the **** episodes.
I think I will monitor this thread for the foreseeable, I a have always been interested in watching Star Trek, but the sheer amount of episodes has been a turn off, I have only ever watched a few episodes.
Any excuse to watch B5 again, that was brilliantly written. Heh, another time maybe although I haven't watched the movies they made for B5.

Yeah, thats a good list to start with.
I would also try and get in the TNG episodes that are on the Holodeck, the one where Moriarty gets out with Ghengkis Khan is brilliant. Encounter at Farpoint is also a very good choice as it introduces Q who pops up every now and then for a bit of fun and mayhem.
Definately start with Undiscovered Country first and foremost though as that is where the Klingons join the Federation to avoid confusion later down the line if they decided to want to watch the original series.
Have you looked into the Borg episodes in Voyager, they are always interesting. They also tie into the Elite Force PC games
My wife hated star trek but after watching the most recent film (it's an amazing film IMO) she decided to watch every episode of DS9. She even now has a mouse mat in work with all the captains faces on it!
She even quotes the rules of acquisition to me!

ok I'll be the picky trekkie to point out that Chekov did not fall off a ship.
He was actually on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier and he fell from the flight deck down one of the lowered aircraft lifts down to the plane storage deck below
On a side note the USS Enterprise is to be decommissioned on Dec 1st this year.
The next Star Trek film has a lot to live up to (and hopefully less lens flare) I am hoping they don't disappoint.
Might have to add Way of the Warrior to the list, and Caretaker, Scorpion (as a DS9 and Voyager taster)
I have no idea, I am a huge fan as you can no-doubt tell.
I think Spock wears a beanie for a good proportion of it to blend in with 20th century earth.
