    i don't rate this guy...

a lady from my church fasted for 40 days and forty night - in prayer for someone who needed it very badly! she put her life at risk (in a way) and gave up all that time to pray for that one person...

so what this fella is upto seems crazy to me - but each to his own i think he will risk mental illness more that anything - fasting and be hung up there with loads of people shouting at you after a few beers on a friday night will do anyones head in!

    crazy fool!

For me being trapped in such a small space with nothing to do for so long is inconcievable. He must be mad to do this sort of stuff. Derren brown is amaizing. Have only seen him o tv but i was very impressed by what he could make people think. Is this stuff a trick or can he actually do it, anyone know?

Heard on the radio that Guinnes Book of Records have no interest in this stunt, seeing as someone has already fasted for 366 days! and someone else spent 60 days in a barrel an eighth the size of the box he's going in... so, nothing special here.

What would be more fun would be to go along with a paintball gun and coat the box... or perhaps a few potshots with an air rifle?

i'm not sure you're correct about it being warmer inside the ice than not...surely he'll be kept at a constant temperature and he will gain some insulatory effect from the lack of air movement over his body BUT the overall effect of the ice will - by convection - cool him down. the air temperature will be reduced, ok so its not as drastic as cold water but it will get you cold. have you [or anyone else for that matter] been INSIDE a glacier - which is (funnily enough) made of ice? I have. and its VERY cold in there. so your assumption that he'd be 'warmer' inside the ice might be true when compared to to brisk, cold new york air (i don't know - I've never been) but it was still COLD inside the ice regardless.
I belive they had a thermometer checking it all the time. oh and they probably had a thermistor up his arse to make sure his body temperature didn't fall too low

    p.s. I know these things

To some extent, the ice block construction Blaine entered Monday is similar to an Eskimo igloo, though of different proportions.
Brian Aglukark, the manager of regional planning for the Nunavut Planning Commission of Iqaluit, Canada, says igloos are very economical constructions, and are very efficient at keeping energy inside. The average igloo has about 16 square feet of floor space, and if constructed properly, it blocks 40 mph winds. A single candle will raise the temperature inside by about 20 degrees Fahrenheit, he says.
Average temperatures near Iqaluit at this time of year hover around 5 degrees Fahrenheit (not including the wind chill factor). In New York today it was in the low 40s.
“I’m sure [Blaine] is quite comfortable,” Aglukark said. “His body heat and breathing won’t be enough to melt the ice, but it would make it comfortable to live in.
Penn Gilette of Penn and Teller really came out against this guy, basically saying the kinds of things you mentioned - more flashy vegas-style crap than magic here. He pointed out that this guy basically would expereince the igloo effect. His own body heat would warm up the trapped air inside the block of ice and it would actually be pretty toasty in there, not cold.
basicly his body heat made the air warm and he was fine, he acted cold for the camera and it was all part of the act

edit: im trying to find the site that gave away all of blaines tricks hes a preformer and has skill but most tricks are setup and the camera for the tv only lets you see half the trick and what youu want to see

unless they pumped warm air in i can't see anyone being warm in ice...true - standing will allow convection currents to warm your body as heat rises (boundary layer) but surrounded by cold surface heat is lost rapidly... simple physics.
