Hi! We are having trouble uploading a web site to the uni site, we can see where to upload files to but that is not really any good as we need to use some sort of FTP to upload the web site as it has folders and sub folders with quite a few files, meaning one at a time would be a nightmare! We mailed the ‘ISS’ but no reply as yet! Just wondering if you could shed any light on how to upload the web site, as my friend won’t be at uni until Monday as she is doing a placement this week.

    Cheers Jim

I dont know if streetster helped...but

Its on the ISS site I think...I dont know...there is good info on the ECS site, but I think you need to be a student there and log in for that.

You dont actually have to be at the uni to sort it out...you can VPN in and do it...
VPN in create public_html folder add files, chmod etc...althoguth that might be ECS only. Also if you are not ECS you only get 15mb to include all your files, emails and website...so it better not be too big. (ECS get 400mb so it shouldnt be a problem).
you can use winscp or whatever and that will keep folder structure wont it?

the VPN certainly USED to be ECS-only

    um what?
surely it should be www.soton.ac.uk/~user/index.htm for their site or something?
Or have I completely missed the point?

oh right sorry...I think i understand.
ftp://userassword@ftp.soton.ac.uk will give you all your files and everything. Then create public_html and file with index etc...and remember to chmod it all! (well the public_html folder only...but its contents as well.
