I would point out though that Christ himself hated "religion". Seriously! If you haven't before have a read one of the gospels. He rails against the "religious" particularly their self-important elite groups like the Sadducees and Pharisees. The 20-series chapters in Matthew are a good place to see this. No wonder they wanted him dead...
