I Need To Find A Screw.

I am restoring an Oliver model 9 typewriter dating from about 1917

When I got it from ebay it took a bad knock in posting and the carriage rail was shared off the two bolts holding it on. I was able to remove what was left and then the fun looking for the right screw started.

Going by the chart on Wiki for UNF I need a Number 8 UNF but the best I can find is a Number 10. I have used metric and imperial all my life and to be honest unsure about Unified Thread Standard.

Also taking measurements I am not sure the above is what I need, width of thread. 4.36mm / 0.172" but this does not really match any charts I have found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

An Oliver specialist or collectors site? Other than that, if you can't find what you're after through normal avenues & can put a pic up I'll happily rummage through my garage (several generations' worth of jamjars of hardware). Shocking packaging btw, unless it was RM's fault.

Re: I Need To Find A Screw.

Ask on a US website. I had the devil's own job finding an appropriate bolt to repair my motorbike - posted a query on a USA forum and had a retired bloke answer my query in a few hours.

Here are two pictures, one full and one from the top.

Thanks for the link, I have ordered a small section of screws, due to the fact the minimum order was £3. Fingers crossed for me all.

Good luck! A great believer that old tech should never die. I'm sure a few of us would love to see some pics of it when restored

Do you know anyone at a machine shop? They might have a thread gauge and they could compare it for you. You might get lucky and even better they might machine it for you.
