Mines been under more extreme circumstances. 1st one died in Honduras, I don't think it liked the heat and humidity. 2nd one died in Canada, don't think it liked the cold. Both of these died while far away from home and the 'support' I got from HSBC during this time was (Oi! Watch your language -Admin) poor.

3rd one lived in my man bag I use every day during commute in UK, guess it just didn't like being bumped about (but my laptop, tablet, kindle and camera are all fine).

I'm sure if it lived at home in my desk draw it would be fine for years.

Unless it doesn't like loneliness? Or wood?

They seem to be fussy little beggars.

Re: Who does the best online Banking (website, ease of use etc) in your experience?

I switched from Barclays to First Direct just over a year ago and although First Direct are superb in every other area, their online banking, and by extension the Android app are very poor in comparison.

They are functional and I don't believe I've seen any downtime but the interface is straight from the 90's.

Re: Who does the best online Banking (website, ease of use etc) in your experience?

Barclays have always done me well, but when living in Spain, they charged stupid amounts for withdrawing money out there, and their online banking is so secure, it's annoying. Have to carry around a pingit device everywhere I go.

I'm now with Halifax. I require a password and 3 different letters of my personal word, different each time.

It means I can access online banking on my phone whenever I need without having to use yet another device.

I can't really comment for other banks though.

I keep mine in my bag and have been around the world with it (Malaysia, Austrailia, South America) and had no problems.

I've only used HSBC and Santander and I prefer HSBC's site. I agree getting current account bank statements from them is bit of a pain, but the credit card statements are OK (monthly and in pdf).

Re: Who does the best online Banking (website, ease of use etc) in your experience?

Can't say I've had a problem with the interfaces in the various online accounts I have, just general "issues".

Virgin/Northern Rock : It required an access password, so I dutifully entered a long complex one. When you log in, you have to enter 3 of the letters/numbers and its case insensitive, something it doesn't mention when choosing a password. If I'd known that, I'd have entered something more memorable.

Lloyds/Halifax : 2 separate online accounts, yet if I change contact details in one, the other changes too. I know its part of the same group, but its damned annoying.

Use Halifax, no issues. Does what I want it to, it's easy on the eyes and has been very reliable. Only small issue is if you have a rooted phone you can't use there mobile app! You have to use there mobile website, blah!

Re: Who does the best online Banking (website, ease of use etc) in your experience?

Had quite a few, but some I haven't used in years. I'd rank them thus if it's any help, from best to worst: Santander business; Santander; Natwest; Kaupthing Edge; ING; Halifax; AA; Virgin.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Re: Who does the best online Banking (website, ease of use etc) in your experience?

Wow! Hold on a moment. How are you deciding "best" here? Do people really prioritise layout, design, a bit of extra scrolling and clicking etc, when doing online banking? I totally don't care as long as I get :-

    • Security
    • Fast payments
    • Access to transaction history
    • Zero or low charges

First Direct provides all that as far as I'm concerned. I absolutely 100% want 2-factor auth on my banking accounts. I really like that First Direct lets me use an app on my phone to generate an extra login token.

    Everything else is secondary.

Re: Who does the best online Banking (website, ease of use etc) in your experience?

I have Santander and NatWest accounts. Previously I have had an RBS account. The best experience online, the best experience for fast payments, transaction history.... Basically everything... Is Santander.
Their security is also excellent. I often have phone calls from them checking purchases are actually me and they have blocked suspicious transactions on many occasions. NatWest involved considerably more hassle to sort out anything unauthorised.

Danske Banks online experience is definitely the best I have experienced. The UK uses the same setup/award winning apps as over here in Denmark.

    http://www.danskebank.co.uk/en-gb/Personal/ways-to-bank

If you don't need to visit branches (they based in NI) then well worth taking a look.
