The Clocks That Rule Our World

Nice BBC article on the significance of ever more accurate clocks.

Fascinating bit about the effect of physics on time too, didn't know that fact about time moving faster the higher you are.
No trees were harmed in the creation of this message. However, many electrons were displaced and terribly inconvenienced.

Clearly this should be our primary source.

I know you're quoting the BBC article... but 'higher' makes it sound like an Earth-local phenomenon. Just wouldn't want someone to get the wrong idea!

More people should know this. I remember never being told it in physics in school. How long has GR been around? Gravity is a property of space and time people! Massive things warp space and time!

I think GPS proved the whole idea of special relativity too, not just GR.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

You might like to read about the Planck Time, which as I understand it is the smallest length of time that has any meaning. Anything less would be theoretically meaningless - indistinguishable from one time point to another. But at such a small scale almost everything we know or can imagine is probably wrong anyway.
