A little help?

My laptop runs Win95 and to use the internet and browse websites I need to run AnalogX proxy on my main PC.
Now I want to use my laptop for IRC. How do I configure it to connect through it? I put in my local main computer IP into the firewall options bit, yet it still doesn't connect. Any ideas?

Cant you just use ICS - Internet Connection Sharing, its built into 98SE, Me, 2k, and XP (all versions of 2k and XP). You connect through your comp, and your laptop will be able to access all ports on the net. It aint too advanced, but it does its job.

Or, if you've got an old 386 knocking round that you could put 3 network cards in, there is a Linux distro customised to run as a home router. I cant think of the name of it atm though.

thats too much effort imo, and ics is gay. i used wingate when before i had teh router has lots o other stuff like firewall and usefull stuff not too anoying either + it can run as email server

if u use a proxy set teh other comp to use the inet comps ip as gateway and dsn in inet exporers conenctions tab in options uner "advanced" or "lan settings" or soethng like that, or if u use ICS set it in network propertys of rur lan card its DNS server and gateway u set to ur main pc.

I'm using AnalogX's Proxy, also, but on the rig that I access IRC. I guess you have the following settings:

http: port 6588
shttp: port 6588
ftp: port 21
socks: port 1080

What I've found is that Proxy has some settings (one of the ports?) that IRC servers don't like and will ban and kick you out, even if you managed to get in for a brief moment... The solution, for me it's simple, shut down Proxy for the time I'm on IRC and launch it again after I'm done. I don't know if there is a way around it...

BTW, I found this in proxy.txt...

it does NOT work with ICQ, which really requires full Socks5 or a complicated mess of UDP port mapping - but AIM and MS Messenger both work fine.

that be ident which it cant get cos of the proxy OR its an open proxy and irc servers dont like them and kick u

OO er too much information...Basically I the only internet access with the laptop I can get with JUST ICS is MSN Messenger working. To browse web pages, I need to run AnalogX.

With it running, I click "Connect to IRC server" and nothing happens and the internal speaker just beeps once. Most likely indicating no connection?!

OK now I can't get in to Hexus IRC from my main PC... Quakenet says something about an open proxy, but I don't hvae any proxies open??!! HELP! Stupid IRC!
