    Watch Winder Recommendations

Hmmz can't seem to find a thread for Watches so here will have to do, looking for any recommendations on a watch winder for around £20-50 battery operated would be a plus and ideally as silent as possible, only the one automatic watch so single is fine, its not to fit anything fancy just a rotary with a small ish face. Thanks

*Edit* Forgot i had a old automatic lorus as well so a double would be ok as well.

    Re: Watch Winder Recommendations

It's actually a tough ask for a silent, battery operated winder under £50.
You could always do what i do, set the time and give it a shake before you wear it .....

Amazon have got a good selection, even if you don't buy from them it's a good place to see customers reviews.
Here's one that seems to fit, no personal experience of it so unsure just how silent it is. Not quite in budget, but very close. ;-)

Aye would be cheaper lol, only really gonna use it on the weekends as got another watch for the work weekdays so was thinking during the week a winder might be nice. Had looked at that alloy one but really didn't like the look.

If the watch is being left for 5 days, you might well have to set the time anyway with it being mechanical. So you wouldn't save much by having a winder. Your also putting 5 days of wear on a mechanical watch when your not wearing it.
I'd be inclined to leave it . It would be different if it were being left over the weekend and you wanted it for Monday, or if it were an Omega you were getting serviced every few years. But tbh, i'd just let it run down and then re-set it when you want to wear it. Added to that any watch winder of that budget range may strugggle if you want a silent one. Just my 2 pennys though.

    Re: Watch Winder Recommendations

I was sorta under the impression it was better to keep a automatic watch moving so the parts don't seize over time with them being left? Hence looking at a watch winder, for what it takes to set and wind it i really don't mind was just thinking sorta in the long run.

Leaving mechanical watches is fine. Think of it like a car engine, if the engines in good condition, leaving it not running won't do it any harm.
If you thinking long term, getting a watch serviced before things go wrong is what you need to think about. Typically 5 - 6 years (from what i've seen anyway) . As that will be about the time the oils evaporate in the watch. After that the watch will still work, but will wear faster. So getting it serviced at that interval will mean it's more likely to be kept in good condition. But depending on the cost/setimental value of the watch you may not think that's viable. In which case putting less wear on the components will keep it going longer.
I've read of Seiko movements going for 20 or more years without a service, but it's not recomended... ;-)

Think with Rotary its £25 every 3 years for a service, as long as you keep it up they guarantee the movement for life which i suppose is not to bad. May well leave it in that case and just wind it up as and when tbh. Cheers for the info thus far, been most helpful.

That, for a mechanical movement service. Is very well priced.

    Re: Watch Winder Recommendations

Omega are more like £160 when I last had mine serviced.

I've brought 2 cases and a 2 watch winder from this company (http://watch-winder.co.uk/) as presents for my dad. The cases have been lovely and the watchwinder is silent. Not the cheapest of units though but I think that you get what you paid for sometimes.

    Re: Watch Winder Recommendations

Did have a look at this one on their http://watch-winder.co.uk/Carbon-Two...nder-PL51.html but its over more then half the value of the watch itself lol.

With regards to the servicing Rotary ain't what they once was tbh, the inners are actually made in china but assembled in Switzerland from what i understand, i personally bought the watch because i liked the look of it.
