    Re: Black Holes

No my views on usage are still the same, drugs are bad mmmk, and I really should drink less too as it's the worst substance I've ever taken for my health, and I've love to get pharama grade MDMA rather than bath tub chemist versions.

I had a misconception that some of the effects were due to stimulus, rather than actually deactivation of certain bits of the brain that provide 'bridges' or synchronisation. People often describe drug experiences as feeling more switched on, things more real, when in fact your brain is 'working less' if you will. Really interesting stuff that I'd like to know more about, as the brain is fascinating.

No, sounds interesting though. Black holes are currently keeping me busy!

    Re: Black Holes

It's fascinating stuff, it's just accounts of people afflicted by neurological issues, so it's much, much easier to read than a text book that requires you to have fully understood the previous chapter.

As a result, if you have time in your life for a relaxing to read book, that you want to pick up for just say 20 min at a time, get it

But I agree this is very off topic from black holes and the wonders of the universe, maybe you can see if an elves has one of these for you:

    Re: Black Holes

I love these types of docs even though I understand very little of it. I quite often drift off to sleep at night watching them - its like a lullaby of knowledge I'll never understand On a related note, there is a great little app a client recommended to me who was into astromony - SkySafari. I've only had a little play with it but its pretty cool.

Santa (and anyone else) if you want to get more hands on then I can highly recommend this book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Turn-Left-Or.../dp/0521153972 Pair it with a decent pair of 10x50 binoculars, or anything on this page: http://www.firstlightoptics.com/dobsonians.html and get observing.

Ok, you won't see any black holes, but there's a lot of other "stuff" up there to see!

What do science/experts say is on the otherside of a blackhole?

As for that optical illusion that was posted... didn't do well for me.

There isn't another side as such (at least that's my rather limited understanding!) they aren't wormholes, they are a super-dense, super-small volume of matter that causes huge gravitation forces.

You should watch the horizon documentary that the OP mentions, I watched it and the infinity one over the weekend and must say they were quite fascinating, even though I already was aware of 90% of the black hole documentary.......the last 10 mins about the guy who is hoping to measure our galaxies black hole this year was a bit of a revelation.

The one on infinity had some cross-overs with the black hole episode, although I might have found that one more interesting as I love numbers.

Well that clears it up.. for some reason I was always under the impression there was something on the other side.

    Learn something new.

There was an interesting reddit thread about this some months ago that stuck with me... you might say it really "sucked me in" (hehe... yeah).

Oh no, it's my flipping nightmare again. Cosmic-sized objects bouncing off each other. It really makes me feel weird and has done all my life. It's the enormity of it all. Urrrggghhh <shivers>

    Re: Black Holes

Has anyone heard about the latest news about a black hole fire in the heart of Phoenix Galaxy Cluster? Does every galaxy have black hole jets in it? In how many years our galaxy will be swallowed up by a black hole or will it be destroyed by a collision with another planet?
