In the older days, sellers abused the system, so ebay changed it.

Now buyers abuse it, and it probably wont change.

Tbh, surely the simplest thing to do is keep all communications via ebays message system, and then ban anyone that makes threats or tries to abuse the system.

I guess people should learn to read the description before going in and bidding

Re: I see some odd stuff on ebay at times but this is just nuts!

There's a "report item" link on every ebay auction. Hardly anyone seems to use it to flag dip****s like the one linked in the first post.
Ebay is a hellhole for buyers too. Flooded by commercial sellers spamming every category to hell and back.

One particular UK based seller is flooding ebay Germany with 400,000+ items in a single category

The ebay RAM category as-is (currently about 760,000 items)
    http://goo.gl/IZ5Kg6

The same RAM category with one seller (the UK based spammer "offtek-memory") excluded (currently 267,000 items)
    http://goo.gl/tViwqy

That's 493,000 effin items just from that one seller.. wtf
It's impossible to go look for something on ebay these days without excluding spammers like that, or others which have all kinds of brand names in their descriptions which makes searching for specific items a total painus in the anus.

And yet, many people still use it as there is a lack of real alternative. Doesn't it count as a monopoly?

I've only ever used eBay and Gumtree. Of course, Gumtree isn't designed for distance transactions. I've heard good things about movements like freecycle, though.

Look what I said was a joke , I take selling an item on ebay very seriously. I list with true description of item with genuine photos. I note serials and make videos of item working just before packaging, I communicate fully with buyer.

Here is link to my feedback profile.

Recently sold steam game keys and you'll see near the end of screenie some genuine retail copies of Win 7, these I'd kept back from the 20 or so I bought when win7 was released and was ultra cheap on pre-order/initial IIRC.

I sold all copies of Win 7 via ebay .

I've only once got a negative and that was a guy wanted a Stella pen and posted to USA. Pen was a £1 and postage to USA was expensive. Even though I cancelled his transaction the moment he stated his displeasure I gained a negative feedback. I was not gonna post to USA for same price as UK mainland.

Only once I got neutral feedback and that was because item sent signed for, buyer not in and then didn't collect from depot. It got returned to me and I paid shipping fees again to get the item to the buyer without charging him.

I also sold a whole pallet of Stella Chalice glasses in sets of 4, not one was received broken by purchaser, paid for a very nice Panasonic 42" plasma back then .

Today posted out a Asus R9 290X, I spent 30mins making video of testing card, made detailed photos of it packaged in great packaging with 3-4 inch deep air bags all around it.

If you don't wish to buy from me your loss , but don't sully my good name!

Recently I listed the R9 290X on gumtree, whilst being listed for over a week I had 39 view and no contact from prospective buyer.

Listed same card on ebay and within 24hrs 100+ views, 6 or so watchers and 6+ offers. Sold & dispatched within 48hrs of listing .
