I'm not sure its neccessarily a derailment as much as it is a discussion about a point rarely made in the press regarding going on holiday to these 'paradise' style destinations on the cheap. Generally they're cheap for a reason, be that exploitation of very low paid workers (and sometimes they do that and aren't cheap - dubai) or for some other reason.

I've not made any suggestion that the specific individuals involved are to blame, but you can understand (and not condone) the mindset of a dissillusioned youth who supported the overthrow of a government with the aim of getting a better life, only to find themselves in the same or worse situation whilst watching (relatively) rich western tourists sunning themselves drinking margaritas.

What's especially poignant here is that it seems like it might be the case that foreign tourists were specifically targeted. This might be where 'terrorism' really kicks in because it's one thing having an attack on one's 'home soil' where you feel that the chance of is somehow less likely and where, at least, you know the nation stands with you to overcome it and fight against it. It's something else, psychologically, to be abroad, where one naturally feels more isolated, on foreign ground, without the same protections and assistance you might find at home. This sort of thing might have a far more serious effect on people's travel and tourism and general perspective on foreign visits than a home attack might have on their daily routines. It's an intimidating thought.

Far beyond that, though, it is a really sad thing, and perhaps another wake up call to an international reality which doesn't seem to be slowing down. It makes one think of what the Iraqi's and Syrian faced in ISIS/ISIL, and still do. It something that doesn't seem to be going away any time soon and might just get worse before it gets better (if it does).

Then again, maybe this whole line of thought is the point of terrorism. Where does realistic consideration give way to overreaction?
No trees were harmed in the creation of this message. However, many electrons were displaced and terribly inconvenienced.
