It seems to be happening on the bottom part of the roll.
If it's like that photo it could be anything emanating from the 'drop tanks'. From a quick read of the Pilots Operating Handbook for a Hawker Hunter (got to love the internet age) they operate as one would expect, they pump into the main tank, so it shouldn't be possible for a leak in a drop tank to result in a loss of wing tank fuel nor pump pressure as it's a balanced feeder apparently.

Whilst this accident could easily be the result of a loss of thrust, I'd agree with some of the other people saying he came out of the loop late. You don't need much power to escape from the loop as you've got low power at that stage anyway (as your airspeed will pick up on it's own due to the gravity). If I was going to speculate, I'd look at reasons as to why the loop was exited so late.

Terrible news. I was as at school with two of the people killed. My thoughts are very much with their families.

Major traffic routes along the south coast were in chaos as a result - I spent a few hours chewing on my steering wheel in frustration, having missed my ferry, not knowing the reason for it.

A small inconvenience when measured against plight of the victims at Shoreham.

My condolences to those affected by this tragedy.

    Re: Shoreham air crash

    What a terrible article.

'had expired ejector seat parts and an out-of-date technical manual'

Of course the technical manual was out of date, 'manufacturer support for the jet had ended after it was retired from military service'.

And 'the seats were a "significant hazard" that delayed rescue teams until they were made safe.' But not, of course, because anybody knew they were expired, just that they existed. There is nothing to suggest they would have functioned any differently with another date stamped on them.

The vapour behind the tank might well be water vapour condensing due to adiabatic cooling in the low pressure region behind the tank.

    Re: Shoreham air crash

But as the article says, non of the those factors explain the cause of the crash. Most of them are procedural. The pilot didn't eject, so the ejector seat cartridges would have been live until the pins had been inserted, and civilian rescue crews may not have been aware of how to make the seat safe.

The lack of currency of the documentation may have led to an overlooking of a maintenance item, and of course the airframes are old, but we won't know that until the final report is released.

I hope it doesn't but I suspect this will become one of the most horrific cases of pilot error seen in recent times in the UK.

Unless there was some failure of the control system... The AAIB report will be interesting.
