    Good ol ebay and returns....thoughts?

I sold a working well fully working motherboard on ebay, this was on the 25th of last month...

Now all of a sudden today i get a return request as the item is supposedly faulty!

Considering i fully tested it as it was pulled from my media centre im a little bummed with this one! especially as i am in no way to know if it is a different board im going to get sent back...which is something i have come to expect with ebay along with the fact the guy...or girl left it for so long before deciding it was faulty?

So whats peoples thoughts on this? im pretty powerless now and also means im going to be out of pocket!

Im curious that when i get it back, if it works....what ebay will say...?

The 1st mistake was selling it on eBay
the 2nd is wondering what you get back as you should have taken pictures as proof in this event.
ebay doesn't care it will back the buyer now so good luck.

I once sold an xbox on ebay, buyer returned it after 3 weeks as faulty. Plugged it in, it worked fine and had his saved games on the hard drive. But ebay always sides with the buyer so I had to give him a full refund.

I think that unfortunately the best outcome is the buyer bought the wrong motherboard and didn't like to admit. You'll get back a working unit that you can sell again and be a few quid out of pocket.

I would still argue the toss that he waited longer than is reasonable to test it

Sorry to say that I agree with all the above. Ebay don't care for the seller anymore.

Going on from MacDragon's post I sold an old Xbox on ebay and the buyer returned it saying that the screws had been unscrewed from the bottom of the xbox. (the screws were still there, he was complaining that they HAD been unscrewed at some point) he said he had bought another xbox and it was in better condition.

Selling on ebay is a waste of time. Even when you put "no returns" people still return it and ebay allow them to.

Are they any viable alternatives to Ebay these days? I too am sick of selling on there.

Gumtree? I know people 'round my way who sell and buy on it.
Preloved? How hard is selling on Amazon?

Gumtree is alright for some things, but can't say I have ever used it aside from occasionally browsing the used cars.

Seems to be a lot of second hand stuff appearing on Amazon at the moment, and you could always try the FB "For Sale" groups if you can stand FB.

Being a seller on eBay is not what it used to be.
You are absolutely powerless and buyers know they can get away with it and will try every sort of dishonest act known to mankind.

In your case, you should have taken a video recording of POSTing with the motherboard and then logging into Windows; disconnecting all cables ; packing the motherboard in a box ; taping it and then sticking the buyer's address on it. Then, you would have some proof as ammo in a Paypal dispute.
You can expect two things to happen now : Buyer sends back an empty box OR buyer sends your motherboard back but you recieve it and find out that it has been damaged.
Either way, you will be out of pocket and cannot deduct your postage cost from the refund as eBay will give the buyer a full refund.

    WHAT TO DO NOW ?
    - Add the buyer to your blocked bidder's list.
    - Immediately cancel the transaction before he can leave a malicious -ve feedback. This will, unfortunately, give him a full refund.
    - If the buyer was from a particular nationality, e.g. Nigeria or Poland ( the new Nigeria ), in the future monitor your sales. As soon as a sale takes place, cancel the transaction if the buyer is from one of those countries.

Or you can actually block bidders from specific countries or just stop selling internationally. Ive got a feeling this guy just swapped it with his one and will be returning his old broken one to you.

Same thing happend to me when I sold my xbox 360 to a random weirdo. Returned an xbox with with grime and hair and a broken bezel!
