Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

I believe there are some rules regarding sales of digital product codes, in particular I thought you always need to post it to be eligible for seller protection. Also selling game codes on eBay is really a high risk sale however you put it.

I wish you best of luck.

Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

    Update:

After the initial action failed, the buyer has issued a charge back through their credit card issuer.

Paypal e-mailed to confirm this and asked me to present evidence to counter the claim. I pointed to the previous evidence supplied and said I had nothing further to add. The deadline to submit evidence passed, then there was a period of waiting.

I was informed at the weekend that as I had not submitted proof of postage (it was a digital code!) that the charge back had been accepted, and an additional £14.00 admin fee was being applied to my account (by Paypal) as a secondary consequence.

I immediately got on the phone to protest and the £14.00 charge was quashed, but that's disgraceful practise by Paypal in my opinion.

The final decision is still waiting on the credit card company (not sure how this works if they already made a decision?!) but I have to wait upto 75 days for the verdict.

Absolutely ridiculous chain of events, no guarantee I'll see my money and Paypal refusing to commit to insure me for my loss should the credit card company (who have final say on the case) rule against me (and let's be honest they're likely too since it's their customer).

Frankly Paypal have been worse than useless in supporting my case, and I'm seriously thinking of deleting any involvement with them on principle. Be warned.

has the "buyer" used the code?

or has it been stolen from them?

The buyer claims the account was hacked and bought without consent

but has the serial been used? And can you (be bothered to) find out from the game makers WHO it's registered too?

Because if it's the blokes son for example.. it's a whole diff thing to it being hacked!

Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

To be honest given the value I'm not invested enough to throw so much time at it as to find out who registered the key with Steam. I suspect your scenario is the likely reason for this whole episode, but that should be the buyers problem not mine. Surely the burden of evidence should be with the buyer to prove they did not buy it? If I don't get my money back I'm just taking it as a life lesson and washing my hands of Paypal/eBay

Re: eBay / Paypal - advice needed

At OP sorry to read whats gone on, IIRC sold about 6 or so codes this year via ebay/paypal. I do each time think is this the time it goes pear shape but so far been AOK. Selling keys is so risky, if it wasn't for me buying them dirt cheap for selling on I wouldn't even consider it.

Would Steam/Origin, etc reveal such info if your not a registered key seller?
