Star Wars Episode 7: No spoilers

Hi all i saw this last night and to sum it all up. the more i think about the movie the less i like it.

The main issues i had with the movie was a few things:

No back story on some of the new characters
Lots of random stuff just happening in the first hour of the movie without purpose

    lots of plot holes
    Not a menacing bad guy

Really disappointed in it the more i think about it and i really dont like the way its going as i feel even the next one will be a carbon copy of empire strikes back:

    Here's why:

MODS: where is the spoiler tag?!?!?!

I'm glad I'm not particularly interested in the film, your post gives me ammo to get out of having to go and watch it

Really enjoyed it. I spent the first half beaming

Flawed, sure? I suspect the second half had some chopping around but it was still good.
Unfilled information doesn't bother me, it would require more forced exposition and less to reveal in the next film.

Re: Star Wars Episode 7: No spoilers

Seen A New Hope??? Then you've seen the Force Awakens so don't bother. While the film was enjoyable up to a point it was so similar to a New Hope that in the end it just became too distracting for me. literally some bit's were shot for shot the same, others it was just the setting or scenery. There were no new ideas and it just seemed to be continually paying homage to the original that it forgot it needed to be a film in it's own right, thankfully though it's not as bad as 1, 2 & 3.

Meh... lets hope the next one will be better.

I will never understand why they didn't use Timothy Zahn's books as a base for the new movies, they are just brilliant.

I have to say nothing has changed for me Empire strikes back still by far the best movie. Fan boys are foaming at the mouth saying how good this film is. It's a safe boring disney movie that caters for fanboys. Its decent enough but could have been so much better.

    I've not seen it yet but some things to bear in mind;

    1. Being like the originals isn't that bad... imagine it being just like the prequels
    2. This is Disney so it's not really for us oldies... got to keep those toy sales going

oh and just to be clear Han Shoots First

Especially worrying when people are calling it "a classic", and that was after the US premiere. It's getting as bad as "greatest x of the year" for something released in January.

Re: Star Wars Episode 7: No spoilers

I enjoyed it and I am not even that big a Star Wars fanboi either. Since its the first in a trilogy of films,i think people should be really only making a proper judgement on any "plot holes" until you get to the last film in the trilogy, just like "The Empire Strikes Back" was the second in the original trilogy.

People just want instant gratification nowadays - I expect things will be explained as the other films are released,as there are two left in this trilogy and another three left in the other one being released along side it.

Its the same with the new series,The Expanse - only after 4 episodes people are whining,"it has too many story threads","it does not make sense"....I personally think series like Babylon 5 would have been cancelled now very quickly since it had a million things going on and it took like well over a season, for people to start to see how things added up.

Heck,I am surprised that Agents of Shield wasn't cancelled in the first season,by the instant explanation crowd. Good thing it was given a chance to build its story up - its matured into a very good series after three series,IMHO,OFC.

For me Star Wars was always about the characters first,I actually liked the new characters in the new film - unlike the previous trilogy were they were a bit meh. Even the bad guy is more interesting once you think about it.

It feels more like the old Star Wars films(and I am not talking about the plot either),so I am cautiously optimistic for the five films after this.

Re: Star Wars Episode 7: No spoilers

    That was AWESOME!

Just got back from seeing it at Leicester square IMAX. A completely enjoyable romp of a film that pays homage to the original trilogy, especially A New Hope, a lot but is no less enjoyable for it.

First thing that stands out for me is the strong female lead. It's typical modern Disney, but all the better for it, and acted superbly. The other characters are also acted really well for the most part.

The sound is superb though I didn't catch the orchestra in the credits - anyone know?

Visuals are very J.J. Abrams, yet not over the top with CGI - this film will age much better than the prequels. One thought though is I recommend 2D. I saw it in 3D and aside from perhaps two natural vista scenes, it only took away rather than added anything. The composition of some of the scenes is really artistic but seems designed for 2D IMHO.

And the tone was perfect - plenty of humour, on a range of levels, but again not too much, very Star Wars. Lots of action and peril. Some emotion.

It's certainly not anywhere near my outright top film, but it is a very very enjoyable watch.
