They did it !

Crazy stuff - I'm very impressed because they made it look easy. The drone ship is rolling around in the waves a bit too, just to make the rocket science harder.

Wow, she is so close to the very centre of the of course I still love you this is rather amazing when you consider all thee volatile variables involved.
Congrats to all those involved.

So glad to see that this was posted, it's an incredible feat!
Not just the landing, but landing on a relatively unstable platform and staying upright after the rocket shut down. I guess the CoG must be quite low down, and there are the spreaders at the end, but still very impressive.

Wow, awesome!
Incredible.
Brilliand and such good news.

I suppose some interesting commercial questions now get raised...
How much can you charge to ride a second hand space craft.
Will the insurers touch it?
Nor really second hand though, just multiple use, it will be refuelled. In principle it is no different from refuelling your car or having a manufacturers service, or perhaps more appropriately, flying in an aircraft that has been stripped and rebuilt as part of its maintenance regime.
It will be refurbished (serviced) refuelled and used to launch another vehicle..

Ah yes, but imagine if no-one had ever refuelled or serviced a car before. Even though it is designed for it, there will be an interesting talk with the insurers for people buying the next payload because insurers don't like anything new (or possibly they love it as they can charge double).
SpaceX are saying it'll reduce costs by 30%. SES want to be first to launch on a re-used Falcon 9 but they want a 50% reduction. - http://spacenews.com/spacex-says-reu...y-in-november/
What I find most exciting is that Musk plans to launch the re-used first stage within 2 months. He's got to be pretty confident to say that! http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/04...in_two_months/
Yep, when the fuel's gone then the weight is all low down. Someone did a lovely estimate of the CoG and critical stability angle - http://space.stackexchange.com/a/9199
Can't really argue with the accuracy or logic in that. Looks very stable to me. I'd still be nervous about it landing in high side winds.
It seems like a really big leap forward for them, one step closer to eco friendlyish and simple space travel
Seems the drone ship has docked, so some on board camera shots have been released.

Sounds like the next one should be interesting, less fuel and harder landing:
