Not unusual for animals to cause power failures (I remember my father being called out to a substation were a cat had walked onto a pair of 11kV bus bars - it didn't walk off) - and mice and squirrels can cause damage to domestic installations.

Yes, the same animal, from that article:Fouine = Beech Marten or Stone Marten, or even White-breasted Marten Martes foina. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fouine (Fouine, I think, might be translated as pitchfork, of the 2-pronged type, (which in some regions might have been commonly made from a suitable branch of beech) referring to the shape of the white breast marking.... as being caused by a “fouine” – a beech marten native to the region.

They're not too difficult to see in some parts of Europe, unfortunately, too often as roadkill, but they can also be seen under artificial lighting along roads, etc. - check out any 'funny looking' cats at night
That might have confused you even more, they'd have described your 'moose' as an Elk...
