How much money, is "a lot" of money to you?

What is the MINIMUM amount of money that you'd look at and think "if that were mine, today... that would be a LOT of money "?

ie don't just say 50 squillion quid

What's the lowest amount that would do it?

I'm not suggesting you need to pay off a mortgage, or buy a mansion and afford to run it for life... I'm not suggesting you simply really need a new car right now and £15k is the amount ...

I'm guiding you not at all....

if you're 16.... your thoughts might be very diff to the 50 year old finance director...

It's not a salary, or an inheritance....

it's pile of money/a cheque that you'd look at think...."actually...that's a lot"

Intriguing question Zak. It's made me ask myself if my answer would have been different 2 years ago, or 5 years ago (go back fiurther than that and the buying value of the money changes significantly, so it's not really a fair question).

I'd guess at my answer being an outlier, particularly for my demographic, so I'm going to be very interested to see what kind of a spread of answers you get...

I thought I'd be in the 1 million plus camp..but as I chiselled it down and down.. I went quite low actually.

I struggle to answer, I think I need context as I always compare money to "I can pay off my mortgage" or "we could go on holiday"

My answer was almost immediately the lowest figure there, I dont work, I do camera mods to supplement my benefits, so almost any figure is "wow" to me

I know you mention not to pay off your mortgage, but to me it would be 'that's a lot of money to have left once I've paid off the mortgage'. So I guess b-a would be £50k. Enough that i'd be able to buy a decent car or go on a 'once in a lifetime' holiday without fearing that it should be used for other, more important things.

I voted 10k as that would enable us to do a few things we might not otherwise, but I always said if I had a million I could retire in my 30s so that's my "minimum ideal" amount I guess.

It's a tricky one, this.

The way I looked at it is what could land in my account and I'd think, "whoa, that changes a few things". But it's surprising how little that would need to be.

And in another way, surprising how high it is. It's like when I was a kid, and if a grandparent gave me a £50 note it was unbelievable - I could go buy a new videogame, or it put me 30% of the way towards a new console. These days, if I got the same, it would be almost meaningless - before I know it, it's in my account and I've used it as part-payment for the month's gas bill.
