RIP George Michael

Reports breaking now, George died "peacefully, at home" over Christmas. Aged 53.

According to the BBC, an ambulance was called to an address in Goring, Oxfordshire this afternoon, and Thames Valley police have confirmed the death, and that there were no suspicious circumstances.

It's not going to get any better. The cult of 'Celeb' stated 50 or 60 years ago and the number of publicly known figures grew rapidly in the decades from the 1960s onwards. Those people are now getting older. Some lead somewhat 'dissolute' lives in the late 20s early 30s. There have been some early than expected deaths (George Michael and Alan Rickman for example) but I dont expect the mortality rate will decline.

i was a big prince fan so that was a huge shock, and george was probably my second favourite artist and only one i really left hope in looking forward to new albums and live shows, so this is a huge shock too. i never really called myself a "fan" in regards to bowie as with music being my main interest i have huge volumes of music from many artists and tend to reserve the word for it's really meaning of fanatic, meaning doing something i wouldn't normally otherwise do, but i had a bowie collection that any bowie fan would be impressed by, and of course the year kicked off with the huge shock of him dying

no doubt things will continue and continue but there's few people left who will cause a real shock when they die as most long term big artists are nearing an age where it's inevetable. madonna, macartney, elton, the queen, time is ticking
