You are also required to complete one if you receive child benefit, and anyone in your household earns more than £50k
Has anyone done both and can compare how the self-assessment compares to a US Tax return? I'm looking at 14 separate forms for my US return, so a pretty easy year.
Thankfully you develop efficient systems to cope with the work load but seeing as I personally submitted more than 70 returns on Tuesday there is and always will be a giant rush to the finish.
Though I will point out I stayed back 20 minutes and that was only to act as an agony aunt for a lovely lady who is currently going through a divorce.
I'm still filing, but the mundane paper version, as people hand in original signed copies of returns as opposed to scanned versions.
And we'll do it all again starting in 2 months time. Keeps me employed I guess

I can do a moderately involved tax return (P60, P11D, Dividends, property income and expenses), using my software, in less than an hour. This would include a capital gains calculate if required, drafting of bill and letter, at least one phone call to the client to query something or another. This is excluding a self employed person who I need to prepare an Income and Expenditure account for.
