The Completely Subjective GE 2017 Poll - On the Day!

When this election was announced there were many cries of unfairness as Theresa May was seen to be taking advantage of Labour while they were in a shambles. A Conservative victory seemed certain. A easy chance for her to build consensus.

Since then, however, I've seen a lot of support for Corbyn and Labour among friends and contacts, with particular concern over a possible "death of the NHS", and particular admiration of Corbyn's "statesman-like" appearance in interviews and other media appearances. Conversely, Theresa May hasn't seemed to do very well in similar appearances, and the media has shown polls suggesting ever decreasing support for the Conservatives.

From what I see in the media, social media, and the people I talk to, Labour seem to be very much in favour.

However, not long ago the general consensus was that Remain would win. They didn't.

Then came Trump. No way he could win. Oh hang on... he just did.

So I'm curious, now that the campaigning is finished and the day has come, what does your political thermometer tell you? What do you think will be the likely outcome of the election?

To be clear, I'm not asking who you will vote for (or have voted for), nor am I asking if you want to win.

The question is - who do you think will actually win.

Then let's see how perception matches up to the results.

Oh and don't forget to go out and vote (or intentionally abstain if that's your thing).

I agree with you about the 2 main leaders. You can tell when May is a bit stuck, she pulls that Wallace face. She hasn't impressed me one bit. I still think the Tories will get the most seats, the biggest-selling papers are doing their best to paint anyone not Tory as a dangerous Communist, without Britain's best interests at heart, and a lot of people seem to believe what they read in these papers.

Re: The Completely Subjective GE 2017 Poll - On the Day!

A conservative voting friend of mine was on Facebook asking for reasons to vote Tory this time.

What I had been pondering was how the focus for many people was purely on the leaders whereas the governments are obviously larger than the leaders. Not to mention that unlike the US presidential elections, in the you vote for the party, not the leaders. Viewed that way the question I put to my friend was whether or not the Tories as a party might not be more stable than Labour.

How much weight do you think should be given to leaders over parties?

Looking at the previous years numbers, it's going to be interesting to see how much movement there is from the UKIP voters to conservatives. Looking locally to me in Bristol there's potential for several seats to go from Labour to Conservative if a reasonable proportion move, and in two of the seats UKIP isn't standing any more.

I spoke to a couple of people who were both voting with their wallets. i.e. They're against any rises in income tax.... Pure self-interest.
(trying to talk about the cuts in services, including their own, made little headway)
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

There's a decent chance any guardian readers may see a photo of me with umbrella and dog and beard walking out of a small village church polling station tomorrow.

Huh, I was the only one to vote for choose big conservative victory (screw anonymity). I hope it doesn't happen, but I suspect it will anyway.

Re: The Completely Subjective GE 2017 Poll - On the Day!

i think the snap election is probably the best thing for labour as I think it was unlikely labour would have got elected in 2020, meaning we would have the tories till 2025 at least, but now it's early, if labour get a drubbing they may have enough time to sort themselves out with a new leader for 2023 and have a chance

I think the social media interest in labour isn't representative of actual overall support and most people will vote tory or not bother at all. I've seen a few people online saying they normally vote labour but would never want corbyn in power and they are voting tory to ensure he's not elected. I don't support either party and pretty sure tory will win so I'm not going to bother voting at all as I don't agree with any party
