Ok decided to go into NatWest and open a bank account today - thought it was about time

All sorted, deposited £20, cheque book/card/paying in slips, etc, on their way.

Went onto the site and applied for Online banking - they said they'd contact me within 7 days about this or something, after I'd filled in the form... What's this mean? Are they gonna ring me with the number I supplied to activate it or what?

normally you must speak to them over the phone to give them a security number that they have sent you. You can then change this number over the phone. These security steps are a neccesity tho we all know what these malicious cracking gits can do!

Natwest online is cool stuff mate. I live by it. And when I DID get a fraudulent use of my credit card, they sorted it in seconds. Problem over.

It rocks

It takes 7 days minumum to set up the account and then, .......skys the limit.

I used it recently to pay David some dough.......free, he got the money, safe.......awesome stuf

From my experiences and my dads experiences, Natwest sucks.
However I'll be going with them for my student account, as they offer £55 for signing up

Natwest online banking is quite good, except that you can only use Internet Explorer Version 4 or above (fair enough I suppose) and only Netscape Navigator 4.08 to 4.78 (inclusive), what? So I have to use an OLD version of Netscape, ridiculous.

When I set mine up I think Natwest phoned me and I had to set up a PIN number using an automated service of some sort by pushing the buttons on the phone.

My parents have used them for years and had no problems. What problems have you guys experienced?

With Royal Bank of Scotland, I needed to sign up for telephone banking first, wait for that to come through then.... had to apply for online banking and wait for all that stuff to come through too!It took a while, but the benefits of being able to pay bills/check cards (incl. my credit card) are well worth it.

Got HSBC here, it's a bit clunky, but it's better than sodding about down a branch

yus, from the looks of the typing, very drunk.

HSBC's eBanking stuff is a it clunky, but it gets the job done. ___AND___ I can use Opera to view how little money Ive got in my account! Which is very good for me!

When I opened my account they just gave me a card with my internet banking number(kinda like a PID), account detais written on it to see me through until I got all the stuff through the post.

Quite a cool service.

HSBC all the way baby

I got the number card and had to ring up to create a password number (10 figure jobbie). Easy as a swiss roll TBH, and no arsing around at the local bank other than to create the initial account and to pay cash in when I can't find anyone to give the cash to who can do an HSBC bank transfer

And Swafeman - it's not the alcohol... you're right, the girls (not women! girls!) in Howards signature are U-G-L-Y!

nay, the ladies aint too bad. Haven't opened a natwest acc, but i opened a HSBC and Lloyds TSB student acc on friday. Nice quick service, now getting them viewable online. Both you have to ring up to check you are you, but thats easily done in 2 mins. HSBC was up straight after that, Lloyds im just waiting for them to send my user ID through the post.

Barclays suck! I've had an acc with them for yrs but im shutting it now. Refused to serve me because it was busy. What sort of an excuse is that? Bugger that.

Natwest offer free cash, true, but HSBC offer 50 quid cash OR a 5 year railcard...handy for getting home, and to visit mates cheap.

But sometimes coaches are just easier...so sign up with Lloyds TSB and you get a free national express coach card. Not that i only signed up with these banks because of their free gifts
