    Terrorism

    With London's data centers 'bursting at the seams' (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/business/0,3...9189769,00.htm) would they not make a good target to destroy?

    It's not exactly causing terror due to no lives in a popular everyday place being taken, however it would cause a huge blow to the economy.

    Are they very high on security around them, I think it'd be quite a frightening prospect.

    Yes, they are... been into one... and they're locked down something chronic.

    this why I like the idea of coloating outside london

    in an ex banking data centre, or possible in a nuclear bunker eg www.thebunker.net

    I've read about high security inside (what are they like as a matter of fact); but in the region, or could a small missile be fired, or a series of mortars or something small but could damage quite alot with only a few. Is there anything stoppid that, or a van bomb?

    Van bomb... well you need to be let in through the gates... invisible ones, you can't see

    The datacentres tend to be bomb proof, with rocket proof windows.

    thebunker isn't that cheap , but the banking DC is quite reasonable - but its not nuclear bomb proof

    the banking one is run by Tiscali and hidden quite anonymously in Milton Keynes most of their glass is bullet proof and they have large security distches around it that would make a ram raid difficult.

    colo there is comparable to a london DC, but it has the advantage of not being near to any "hotspots"

    Saw that and thought, 'expensive'. Can't be too expensive

    Yup, the nuclear bomb proofing is essential for me, I like to have my site running even when no-one is left to see it. the banking one sounds quite good

    Addy: How many people go for this sort of stuff?

    All of my old companies colo was at the banking one - it offers extra piece of mind for our clients and was nice to have a DC close to the office (getting down to london was a PITA )

    given that a 10 meg dedicated feed was around £1000 / month and an entire rack of space for about £350 a month its not as bad as you'd think.

    But spose it would give more piece of mind

    What about the non-bomb proof data centres, would it not damage our economy doing something to them?

    Anything important should be mirrored in real time to a 2nd site (even a 3rd.) Pretty standard stuff nowadays, tbh.

    DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D; AMD64 3500+ Winchester ;
    2x XFX 6600GT ; Corsair XMS3200XLPRO TWINX 1GB;
    Dell 2405FPW TFT.
