Just before i built my PC - I ordered a rig from a company called Carerra SSC - They were in PC-Pro mag and there systems always got good reviews. Little did i know after i ordered they went into administration, they were brought out by watford in the end.

But they always seemed to have a great reputation in mags

ah well glad i never got that PC in the end

nothing to do with the reserve - but a similar case.

Jeez, they were a company I had forgot about. My mate used to buy games from em all the time when we were at school about 7-8 years ago i guess. i used to remember they always had a big list in everymag u could think of with their prices on. Bummer if u work for em, i guess place like play.com had an effect in the end

I bought shedloads off them before internet shopping took off with gameplay.co.uk and play.com..after that i almost never used them, except for the odd very cheap n64 game (often had some for 8 quid or so..bargin )

shame they are gone they still had some great deals now and again

I remember Special Reserve. You could only order if you were a member, and all their ads in the gaming mags had a little comic strip.

Obviously this is the problem - everybody *remembered* them, and didn't use them :-/

tbh in the early years they were good, but as the internet took off they were simply outclassed by just about everyone..

agreed, they used to be cheap and they did have a local shop in bristol, but this internet thing proved to be too big a beast to handle

I'd used them since the 80's, back when they also had a text adventure club.

Since it's been so easy to compare prices online and find cheaper games elsewhere, though, there wasn't much of an incentive to buy from them anymore, even if I did browse their site quite frequently.

One thing in their favour was the free delivery, but in recent times they started charging, perhaps as a last ditch effort to actually make some money, but that was the final nail in the coffin for me as far as buying stuff from them goes. And to cap it all, I must have dozens of those 'Reddies' vouchers and never got round to cashing in any of them! lol

What I'm curious about now, though, is the status of Freeola, their spin-off webhosting company. Hopefully their finances are healthy, otherwise there's gonna be a lot of websites that suddenly disappear before long!

I doubt Freeola will survive, unless someone else has taken over it. It the company that owns Special Reserve that gone down the pan (Inter-Mediates ltd) and taken all the companies they own with it, including Gameloaded.co.uk.
