God damn cold callers! Orange you f*^%"£s

So here I am at work, sat in a meeting and my mobile goes off (set on vibrate of course). I scope the number - 08718 553333 and answer. Other end hangs up. This happened a further three times. Turns out to be some goons selling orange phones or insurance/upgrades for my current orange phone (which I dont have, move from orange some 5 years ago).

Anyway - anyone know who these people are? Looking for a company name or something, I googled the number but it came up blank. I want justice! Well, I want to tell them to at least quit calling me.

<EDIT> Just had another call from them - seems that Orange have given them my number but when I ask them for the name of their company they hang up. Any ideas anyone who these monkeys are?

ive been getting HUNDREDS of ones to my home line 06xxx numbers.

Bloody annoying as 9/10 there isnt a person there and then when there is as soon as they try to sell me something i say no thank you... but no they dont get the point..

I swear if they ring me again when im at home im going to literally shout at them and tell them where to stick their phone..

It doesn't stop all calls, but registering on the TPS does reduce the amount of junk calls you get.

What you could do is pretend to play interested and say "it does sound interesting actually, i might consider that - where are you calling from?"

Orange wouldn't have given them your number, it is just people calling what is typically Orange numbers.

As for 06xxx numbers i didn't think these are available to anyone, so i expect it is just spoofed.

where on tps and its stopped nearly 99% of all we used to get. now we get odd few now and then but that dont bother us as the call goes like.

'' hello is mrs (name) there?''
''yes can i ask whos calling?''
    ''its (name) from (company)''
''hello (name) have you and your company heard of the tps service?''
    ''yes''
''well we are on it and im now gonna report you and your firm to them!''

then at the end of that you usally get a 'oh please mrs (name) dont report us we didnt do our checks properly we are sorry to have bothered you and it wont happen again''

it can be funny to hear there reactions

mobiles touch wood not had any but when i registerd my number with o2 i told them not to give it out.

TPS is a good idea actually, im already on the mailing preference registrar so it kind of makes sense - should have thought of this. Just finished registering with them.

This isn't the first group that have told me my number was given to them by Orange, I used to get SMS spams from some company in Cheshire, I tracked down their number and their offices. They removed my number and told me that Orange provided them with my number.

At work, me and my colleagues get mobiles provided for us. Occasionally, one of us gets a cold call from someone trying to sell us a better contract.

The conversation usually goes something like this:

Salesperson: Hello, my name is (blah), and I'm calling to let you know that you're eligible to upgrade your phone contract to a cheaper service.
Me: Erm.... I don't think you'll be able to beat what I'm currently paying.
Salesperson: Oh, you'd be surprised! How much are you currently paying?
Me: Nothing. This is a corporate contract paid for me by my employer

    *click brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*

You can always use it as an excuse anyway

Start off talking like you're interested, then part-way through the conversation shout "They're eating my brains!" and either hang up immediately, or stay quiet and see what their reaction is.

I get this a lot on Orange too, but mines a work mobile and have no control over the contract, I just say 'work mobile' and hang up. Breaks the day up if its particulary monotonous that day !
