How To End a Mobile Phone Contract?

I want to end my 18 month contract with 3.

I have had enough of thier "service" if you can call it that. I have been with them for 10 painful months, and have 8 months to go. I live in central London and for most of the time I have 3-4 bars of reception if I'm lucky.

Sometimes, for hours I get no reception, and in some areas I get no reception at all, while the guy next to me on Vodafone is chatting away.

Does anybody know of any easy ways to terminate my contract?

Call customer services, tell them your tired of the bad service your recieving, they'll probably offer you a better contract (more minutes etc.) if you push em hard enough you'll get something out of them, I can't remember if they're run by o2 (think they are) if so try and get your phone changed to a standard 02 contract phone for the last 8 months?

If its a 12/18 month contract you can end it, but youll probably have to pay the remaining 2/8 months line rental to terminate it Im afriad Give them a ring and see what they say, althought when I left 3, I got shuvved around from about 8 different people until I could finally find someone who would cancel it instead of try and offer me a 'better' tariff, just keep at them I think its possible

I dont think you can, you have to pay untill the end of the contract,

the best way is to read the terms and conditions in the contract you agreed/ signed on

Think they just use the o2 network for 2g calls, as there fully 3g and dont have their own 2g GSM signal, so I doubt thats possible, althought would be a good idea if thats true

I live in SE London and used to work in Central London (WC2B postcode) and never had the slightest problem with reception on 3. I suspect you've just got a crappy phone, it might be worth asking for a working replacement if you've no other problems with the service.

7600, C975 and a couple of others were notoriously crap for reception

3 is owned by Hutchinson although they use O2's gsm network in certain areas. The best way is to approach a good phone store and query the possability of them buying you out of the 3 contract and setting up a new contract with another network of your choice. This works by dropping the current tariff down as low as you can, once this takes effect you then request a port authorization code from 3 and when the final bill is recieved you pay it off in one lump sum with the check provided by the phone shop. The port auth code is immeadiatly given to the new network inorder to port your current mobile number over should you wish to keep it, Hth

Be aware unlike many other networks 3 may only alow a single stage tariff drop at a time.

I had a Nokia 7600- as I said it almost never dropped below 4 bars on the reception graph and never once dropped a call. If that's what you call notoriously crap.....

If you cannot use the service due to poor reception then this should be a good enough reason to drop out of your contract. Let them try and help you, if you still have no luck, they have to let you go.

If o2 coverage is good in your area, there is a way of forcing series 60 phones to use GSM only signals... however I'm not going to link to it.

You can just simply configure most of the 3 phones to do this in settings-phone settings-network selection; I do it all the time for people as the 3g coverage is poor in this area.
