BLACK SHEEP BEER (from Masham I think)

What a cracking beer....had it first in Yorkshire in Feb,when the snow was falling. Me and Sair had a pint each...divine...and then I finds it , this week, in Majestic Wine Warehouse

ACE...and its in BOTTLES...not damn cans..

What a cracking beer.....I heartily recommend it.

And I find out that the bloke who owns/runs it , is Mr Theakston....BROTHER (or is it Father? oh well) to Mr Theakston or THEAKSTONS

    Small world, beer

My folks paid a a trip to some breweries around the dales last easter, so our house has been full of black sheep most of the summer.

Needs restocking now though, wonderfull beer.

MY mum was disapointed when I admitted that I had a soft spot for Old Peculier, given that Theakstons were bought out and relocated, so Black Sheep were set up on the old Theakstons site.

Black Sheep Brewery was set up by Paul Theakston after the rest of the family sold up Theakston's to Scottish & Newcastle. The brewery is next door to the Theakstons one at Masham, on a site that Paul Theakston bought being aware that the site also had a right to use the same water source as the Theakston brewery, so long as it was a brewery itself (weird historical reasons)...so the Theakston brewery has to sit there and watch Black Sheep sucking up "their" water - and the outflow from BS goes right past the Theakston manager's office .
Stunningly good beers; the standard 4.4% ale is great, and if you run across it, you HAVE to try Riggwelter (although at 5.7% I'd counsel some caution ). http://www.blacksheepbrewery.com/ for info. On a related note, I can also highly recommend this bunch, York Brewery: http://www.yorkbrew.demon.co.uk/ I haven't had anything by them that wasn't absolutely excellent.

Ah the old Baa Noir - used to be quite hard to get down south but it's in most of the supermarkets near me now. Tasty stuff!
