Little help choosing a mobile phone please chaps.

Well my o2 contract is coming to an end and I have no real deisre to change to another network and they've offered me wither £100 credit on my next bill (I never use anywhere near that much in a month) or a choice out of four new handset's -

    Nokia 6230i
    Sony Ericsson Z520i
    Motorola L7 SLVR
    Samsung S400i

I don't keep up with mobile phones much these days so I was hoping you guys could help me out, my current phones a Nokia 6230 and to be fair its done damn near everything I've asked it to but a camera with a zoom and more eliable battery life would've been nicer.

Basically whichever phone I choose has got to be -

Simple as hell to use (I still use the old school scrolling style menu's tbh)
Have awe inspiring battery life (its gotta go to festivals and amsterdam this year)
    A camera (with zoom preferably)
MP3 and Video playback would also be a bonus

and generally be durable and able to survive in my pocket.

I'd go for either the Nokia or the Samsung.. If it were me I'd go for the Samsung but they have a less than perfect reliability reputation, so in your case I'd be inclined to lean towards the Nokia.

I personally don't like SE phones, and Motorola, well..

My dads just got the 6230i and even for a Luddite like him it's easy to use, good to operate and makes my 6822 look a bit clunky.

Possibly the best phone apart from the N Series. Buy it, Now!

Yeah. Had my Samsung a number of months though and it's fine touch wood... Let's hope it lasts 'till my contract needs renewing

Obviously O2 don't like you very much then!

If you look at some the threads on moneysupermarket, there are plenty of people who are offered things like 500 mins and 500 texts/month for £20!

I would also demand a Nokia N80 for free too - damn fine phone. Maybe sweeten the deal for O2 and say you'll take an 18 month contract.

If your current monthly spend is less than £30 then all bets are off.

I'd say just port your number to T-Mobile and open a new contract. Get a W800 or W810.

Something witty and fun that amuses you.

get the 6230i It's a nice phone - a decent size, good battery life, good screen with reasonable camera, plays mp3s and videos, bluetooth, and of course the simple to use nokia interface, just like it's been for years.

The other phones are nice (excluding the ericsson, which is horrible to use imho), but I would take the nokia in your situation

    Mac Pro, 2x Quad core 2.8ghz Xeon, 512mb 8800GT, 4gb DDR2 FB-Dimm
Macbook, 1.8ghz Core Duo, 2GB Ram, Superdrive
    iPhone 2G 2.0.1

Instead of them telling you what you can have, you tell them what you want.

Get the phone number for retentions and say you've been offered a better deal elsewhere. They should then offer you any phone and a discount.

Personally, i'd go for the Sony Ericsson W810i

Hmm, I beginning to side with the 6320i after reading this, whats the verdict on the N80's battery life? It looks like a very cool phone but isn't it 3g? I was led to believe that meant hauling about your own personal generator...

Motorola are still as bad as ever- awful, awful software- nightmare phones. That particular SE model is a peice of s... tbh. The samsung is great but it will break for no good reason...

Dont place too much emphasis on features like a camera and mp3 plyer at least not above Calls(quality/reception) texting and batterylife

A nokia is the best bet imo. The n80 is a stunner. It is 3G but unless your using that feature the battery life will be fine. A bit big but it packs a lot of features. Get it in black ooooh babeh
