    MSN Account Hacking :(

SO it turns out my MSN account has been hacked I'm fairly sure its someone on the list who knows my secret question. I've had the problem for over a week where my password was wrong all the time. Just on now and I kept getting logged off, signed in at another location etc. Tried my password and it was incorrect. So changed it and 5 mins later same thing again.

So my question.. whats the next line of defence? How do I change my secret question

“He’s British. And Brits invented acting. So he won’t put up with any of your ‘Snootchie Bootchies’ ********".....“What’re you, ****ing ‘Rain Man’?! Why’d you memorize the whole goddamn script?!”....“I don’t wanna piss off that Rickman dude.”

Maybe something on this page will help?

    Good luck with it!

*edit* damn that link just takes you to the help homepage.....in the search box i just typed "forgot password" and then chose "What should I do if I think an unauthorized person is using my MSN Messenger account?" Something on there may help.

To get an avatar requires you make 500 sensible posts.....yet still people ask so why do I even bother having this here!

Specify or change your question and secret answer

To specify a question and secret answer, follow these steps:
Go to the Account Summary page.
Click Add or Change next to Question.
    Enter your current password.
In the Question list, select a question.
In the Secret answer box, type the secret answer to the question.
In the Country/Region box, select your home location.
    Click Save.
    Notes
Your question and secret answer can't contain your password.
When you provide your secret answer to reset your password, you must provide the exact spelling, spaces, and punctuation that you used when you submitted the answer.
Your secret answer is not case sensitive (Capable of distinguishing between uppercase [capital] and lowercase [small] letters. For example, A is different from a. If information is case sensitive, it must be typed with the required capitalization.) .

Theres the information it gives you when you go to help : help topics

Sign into hotmail, in the top right corner, click "Options", "Question and Secret Answer"

Asks for your password though, so if you don't know it, you may have to e-mail them about it. I've done this for others when they have had their accounts taken over, and they have got their accounts back within 2 days.

    Hope this helps.

    EDIT: Gah, too late!

A good tip is to use a secret answer totally unrelated to the question and keep it written somewhere safe or encrypt it or something. It can be really easy to find some of those answers. Just a suggestion, hope you get you account sorted out.

Since all the mainstream n00bs started thinking cracking is hacking and adware and viruses are the same etc.

depends what the definition of hacking is.. i don't know whether there's some hidden feature in MSN that lets you check your IP, would be useful.

Check your system for viruses and spyware (avast! and spyware are the best) and make your answer reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallllly difficult (i.e. something no-one else would know).

It could be more aptly addressed as social engineering. All secure systems have their weak points, and humans are just one of many....

yeah.. it's a really stupid idea to set up a secret answer that is true - like give your pets name instead of your mums
