Sky news scam?
Have I found a Sky news scam?
Yesterday I was watching sky news and they were talking to this American bloke 'live in Baghdad. Fair enough i thought, nice backdrop of Baghdad with cars driving around, but there was something odd... As they were talking i realised there was absolutely no delay whatsoever with the questions from the sky news desk to the Ameican guys response. Each question i watched closely for some delay even of the slightest but there was none. I put it down then to them having some sort of uber connection so left it, 50-50 as to weather the guy was actually there. The next item they had was with a reporter in Germany (Note: Much closer to the sky news offices then Baghdad!) and guess what! with every question they asked this reporter there was an obvious time delay! Whats going on!? |

Hmm. Agreed. Even with the highest quality satellite equipment, theres a natural lag from it having to go from the ground, up to a sat, half way across the world to another, down to a station, then across to the news desk.

They will often pre-record such interviews with a minion asking the questions to the interviewee. They then play the tape with the questions blanked out and script the newsreader appropriately.

Sometimes they pre-record interviews and edit-out the time delay because it's just annoying.
And these days, cable connections (fibre optics) have much shorter time delays than satellite connections, because the signal is just travelling less far, so it's possible there wasn't much delay. So for a call to Germany, if the call went via satellite it would add a delay, if it went by cable, it probably wouldn't add much. Edit: Holy consecutive posting Batman! ![]() They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them. |

I recall reading that one American news organisation (NBC I think) had a whole fake set prepared, with fake-rain machines too. So they'd get their 'correspondants' to stand near a realistic backdrop (or exterior of a building) with an anarak on, whilst they pumelled them with rain
![]() Not sure if it's entirely true, but certainly possible.

It's only as bad as one of the Iraqi extremist groupsd released a video of a guy intervewing a soilder while men streamed past. It looked like loads of them until you realsed that after about 15 people the first one went past again

There are some funny comments in this thread, hehe. I'm not too sure what they've edited or feigned but I'd have just thought it would be pre-precorded and then have the lag edited out.
