that's not firefox. it's your mouse. the 'up' part of your scroll wheel is being triggered sometimes when you click the wheel. happens with old age.

Maybe stop to look where you point your mouse cursor at and then you won't jump up and down the page by accident. I'm guessing your trying to open a new tab (using the middle mouse button) and you miss it... making the page scroller thing load up..

Somewhere, once upon a time I got a plugin for Firefox (or maybe even Phoenix) that added a whole load of extra controls for customising settings, you *might* find it on that, it's the only thing I can think of short of disabling your middle wheel entirely.

I can't seem to find it anywhere though, so it's a reaaaaally long shot. It was called something like "Extended Options".

i have the opposite problem (one of many) on my dell laptop and the cursor keys just sometimes flatly refuse to work for scrolling, and thats annoying. and 2 versions on since my post about the firefox problems and the copy and paste bug is still there. bah.

Sounds like a problem with your mouse rather than firefox. The ones at my old school (hooray I can say old school now!) used to have very sensitive mouse wheels... which would cause the problem your having.

I've got an old mouse... Optical Microsoft Wheel Mouse. Just a standard one... cheap, costs about a tenner... good to hold, responsive, great for gaming, not a stiff mouse wheel but not loose either.

Or, instead of using the middle button, hold down CTRL and use the left button, opens the link in a new tab.
