    Racism.

    I've just watched Crash, which although a film I can still see it being pretty similar to real life goings on. Now I know the worlds still full of racist groups and there's a strong anti-black music following (I saw it on some documentary), but It's still unbelievable. Is it because the worlds still full of people from a generation which considered black people to be of lesser importance compared to white people, or is just that the world is full of bigoted people?

    I just find it amazing that people are still hanging on to something which should have never even gathered a following. I guess that's just the world we live in /sigh.

    The world is still full of bigoted people. It's easy to make a stereotype of certain groups of people and make a scapegoat of others.

    No matter what race/religion/country you come from, there will be someone somewhere that hates you, based on ugly and innacurate stereotypes handed down from generation to generation.

    That's Mike's happy thought for the day.

    The problem is, there are a lot of stupid rules made up that get called 'PC', which are in reality stupid decisions. However, 'Political Correctness' is too wide a definition for decisions such as this. IMHO, 'PC' to me means calling people Asian instead of 'paki' or Black instead of '(looks like the 'n' word is censored)'. To other people, 'PC' means when people from minorities are reported as being given advantages over other people. To other people, 'PC' means giving stupid names to things that have the tiniest most miniscule potential to cause offence to a tiny group of oversensitive people. And of course, as illustrated recently, 'PC' to some other people means not letting people wave England flags around because it might offend people.

    It's a shame that there's just one phrase that covers all this, because if you get challenged for calling someone racist because they made a horrible joke, they bring up the fact that they're not racist, they just hate political correctness, then go on about how the mythical 'they' are trying to keep straight white men down.

    What some people don't realise is that just because a lot of people hate racism, it doesn't necessarily mean that they agree with 'positive discrimination', ridiculous naming conventions or banning people from flying the flag of their country of origin.

    Was Political Correctness a concept created by the far right to discredit liberals? That sounds a bit far fetched, but sometimes I do wonder

    * Of course, on the Hexus board, 'PC' has a totally different meaning, but that's not really relevant

    white british males are the only kind of people that will scare me into crossing to the other side of the street, or start walking away VERY quickly in the dark

    TBH this subject doesn't need to be discussed any more.

    People=stupid
    Racism=bad
    Hammering nails into your face=not suggested
    Drinking bleach=possibly a bad idea

    That movie is awsome I think! Not only because it brings up racism (and that is an important topic) but because it brings up reality. That is how racism is going on these days, it doesn't have to be this big group of racists that gathers together and say mean stuff about people..today it is everywhere in our society in various ways, like getting insulted in your office for example. That is how it's done today, a "sneaky" method like "silent bullying"...nobody else notice it But this one person who gets the insult. And this means that today's racism is down on a level to hurt one person personally.

    I don't know if I'm making any sence...but maybe/hopefully you understand what I mean...

    Why it is still spreading, I'm not sure why...but there is for sure an old generation left that can't stand black people. And being a child around this generation leads to children being rasied with racistic values. Children often take after their parents. I also think that racism has spread here (in sweden..but my guess is that it is like this on other countries as well) because of how the media has chosen to write about it...I mean there are some people convinced that the immigrants are taking the jobs that those who live here should have gotten instead. There is a lot of bigoted people around the world...*sigh*

    I hate racism it doesn't matter if it's against black/dark people as I am, or against white people or some race. I know I'm quite lucky compared to other people, I have just heard some nasty comments...but still, words hurt and can hurt as bad as if you were beaten up.

    Be nice! and have respect for others.
