    Why do some people and websites use ` instead of ' ?

    What does ` mean? Argh

    It`s stupid I know! It`s one of those things that`s really annoying. I really do appreciate Howard`s viewpoint.

    I have no idea why, it's NOT an apostophe, so anybody using it as such should be smacked with a wet haddock.

    Word uses ' for me.

    They use ` (graves) rather than ' because they don't realise they have a ' or what it's supposed to be used for/
