Can't seem to find...
a thread I saw a week or two ago.
I can't actually remember whether it was on hexus or not, but it was about a girl that had come off a bike whilst not wearing the appropriate clothing - anyone know the link to the site? Its for a mate that is convinced hes safe in shorts, cause he's only popping to the shops, just wanted to prove otherwise really... Cheers, Dave |

Is that Bike as in Motor- or as in -cycle?
I ride a (push) bike to work every day, and always wear shorts (unless it's stupidly cold). On a motorbike, don't you pretty much want the full kevlar experience? ![]() They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them. |

Push you mate down some concrete stairs and ask if it hurts? When he says yes. Ask him if he'd like to try the same at 60
![]() If you come off at any decent speed without leathers. you're going to get very hurt, simple. Hell it hurts even in motocross body armour and full leathers. Not to mention the plod, will have a few words to say to him if they cath him.

Yes. Or if it’s very hot, some of the specialised equipment that allows you to keep cool while still protected well.
I think your mate is forgetting that it might not be him in the wrong if an accident happens. Some slamming into the side of his bike at 60 isnt going to be a fun experience. Im just going through the entire process of getting my bike on the road (ER-5), and the one thing that everyone keeps drilling into my head is to stay well protected. I come of a scooter at about 20 a while back. That hurt enough. |

Yup this was of the motorized variety - it was a girl that had come off the back of a Gixer750 - whilst wearing a jumper, bikini, jeans & flipflops. Just wanted to ram the point home in all honesty - as I wear at least a proper jacket, gloves & helmet, if not the full suit (full suit especially if commuting - rush hour = nightmare)

http://www.vtwinmama.com/accident_survivors.htm is worth a read just to drill home the point of how scarey it can be, even with proper equipment. |

I'll wear full jacket, gloves, helmet - but the one concession I do make is to wear jeans. Probably not right but better than shorts. I always wear boots aswell, because they make changing gear oh so much less painful
![]() Thanks for the link Agent, I'll use that aswell. It was more the pictures of a pretty 20odd year old girl with such injuries - thought it may have more of an effect

I've been riding without proper kit (except gloves) for a month and a half now, and have been worrying myself in the process. I'm waiting for Lidl to re-offer their cheap but high quality Cordura riding gear, which is about all I can afford- so hurry up, you German gits .

Erm- no they won't? Legally, you have to wear a helmet, and that's it. You could ride down the motorway at 70 wearing nothing but a helmet and a pair of swimming trunks, and all the cops could do would be to curse your stupidity and pray they don't have to scrape you off the road.
