I've got Sizewell A, B, and C just a few miles down the road..

There has been a campaign to make sure that everyone in the predicted fallout radius can get the pills etc speedily.

Oh, and there's some sort of nice big dogfighting area just off the coast here, makes for nice quiet summers..

Ok, if you want to be pedantic then its officially called Clyde Naval Base as a whole but the correct name of the base itself (sub part) is Faslane... There aint NO town or area called Faslane, Faslane IS the base.

    I got this off google...wow...

The Vanguard class submarine's main nuclear powered propulsion system is based on the second-generation Rolls-Royce PWR 2, which was developed specifically for the Vanguard Class. Current generations of PWR allow submarines to circumnavigate the world about 20 times, whereas the latest development of PWR would allow circumnavigation 40 times without refuelling.
40 freaking times!!! Now I know that maybe they won't have enough food, but still...that's a lot of plutonium stuck in there!

Sorry, bit of a stupid misunderstaning there! It is pretty impressive isn't it?!

As you said the limiting factor is now the man power on board the sub.

Nah, my bad! I don't really understand why there are sailors in the sub's, I mean, all you need is the people to guide it, the technitians, and someone to be in command, right?

I know it's only innocent talk but some of the stuff that has been posted here might be classified and I don't think we should divulge the whereabouts of nuclear sub bases and nuclear weapon manufacturing plants to just anyone in the world.

Maybe I'm just being a bit paranoid in this day and age of terrorism though.....

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Beleive me, anything "classified" wont be accessible from the offical Royal Navy website or any other net sites.

Security at the place is high class... Failing to stop at the gates after 1 warning ends up in a bullet riddled car.

just did some maths, each vanguard sub can cary 16 seperate missles, each missle can carry 12 MIRVS (mini-missles that break off main missle on re entry) each mirv can carry 120kt of nuclear payload. Thats 192 mirvs at 120kt each meaning 23,040kt of explosive force in each sub the bomb that dropped on hiroshima was 20kt that makes each sub 1152 times more powerfull than 1 hiroshima bomb. Scary stuff!

EDIT: By international law sub can only carry 48 MIRVS so thats 2760kt
