| Team HEXUS.net | Right, someone asked me what would happen if they spilt a can diet coke ALL over there computer the other day - I said it might still work, as I thought that the coke probably would find it difficult getting into the computer as most computers only have air vents at the bottom or sides, so if the coke went on the top it might not have got into the computer... anyway, I thought it'd be cool to find out what happened! ***warning - do not try this at home kids, this could have been much worse*** so i did!!! I took the lid off because otherwise no coke would have go in! ![]() here's the before pics: ![]() ![]() donor pc running - 486sx 33, 8mb ram, no hd, i booted a win98 floppy. (i've made the screen brighter in photoshop so that you can just about read the text!) here's some during pics: ![]() pouring the coke ![]() the screen went black! here's the after pic: ![]() Due to the power for the house tripping, I only have one video of the event!! (I was going to webcam video it as well, but the power went and therefore no video!) you can watch the video (1mb windows media player 9 (mpeg4 compressed) avi) here (please right click and save as...): http://77.102.196.41/coke_poured_short.AVI - please use a mirror below!! - when everything goes black in the vid, that's when the power to my house tripped. If someone is able to make the video brighter (it's a bit dark) and crop the end off where everything is black - that would be great! (as I don't have video editing stuff) For some stupid reason, when the screen went black I just kept the cam pointed at that rather than going back to video the PC!!! DOH!! Also if someone would be able to host the video - that'd be cool, as I only have space left on my own webserver at the moment, which is running through broadband (slow). It wasn't as dramatic as I thought it would be to be honest! I'm quite glad really - the power going down in the whole house was scary enough !! ![]() Comment By XTR: Mirrored the Video, since Josh's hosting is probably getting hammered.... | Years ago a mate spilled a litre of water into an Amiga 600, and everyone was panicing so much, no-one turned it off for like 10 seconds, thing it, it didn't freeze or stop working, it just carried on, lol. They dried it out and it still worked fine afterwards, so apparently Amiga 600's are waterproof*.... *(I am not held liable for any damage caused by the addition of water to an Amiga 600 system in any form of hostile or non-hostile environment) ![]() NS |

| when I was doing tech support for a living I had a lady call in with an interesting parrallel to this thread. She had a dead rat inside a dead computer and puddle of something yellow. our conclusion to the situation was the rat liked the warmth of the computer and pissed there. during the piss it must have been electricuted thru the piss the ground being his feet. I laughed and laughed. The lady at first didnt think this was too funny, but after a few minutes she was laughing too. the computer was dead and never to be revived. This was in the 386 era. |
