    Press Start to erm.. start

Why do games still do this?

    PRESS START

I clicked whatever I clicked to launch your silly game, I think you can be pretty confident that I do actually want to play! It's just an unnecessary antiquated splash screen that serves no modern day purpose. I remember the old school arcade days where it was 'Insert Coin', switching to 'Press Start', and how I loved to find a game with the latter sign, meaning some dude didn't use up all his credits/lives. But today, in consoles and pc, makes no sense.

It's called nostalgia (also, it does a good job of making you think the game was actually ready to play quicker than you thought).

Just in case you feel the need for a last minute cuppa before starting a marathon session

Re: Press Start to erm.. start

Quite often these are combined with a rolling demo of the game so that shops can run the game in "attract mode" in the hope of increasing sales. It's still annoying though. Burnout Paradise PC makes you press enter about four or five times before you get to the launch menu!
