    Re: Minecraft?

It's done server side, if you install a mod on your game and then join a server it'll not work on the server.
Well that said there are quite a few cosmetic mods and of course Texture packs will work, it's just anything that changes the game mechanics.

Bukkit is probably the best place for server mods.

    Yay!

Haven't played for a while - do we know whether it retained everything or is it a new install?

    Re: Minecraft?

At present it's just a new install. I have the old map data on the server, but I am trying to get the server protected again like last time. I tried using McMyAdmin, which worked well, but only has an 8 person limit on the free version.

I may just try and use Bukkit again, will update you all very soon on that.

    Re: Minecraft?

They've updated it again. it's now at 1.2.3 it's actually annoying updates are coming out so fast, it's actually a bit annoying.

Allen if you get bukkit back up and running please can we get the timber mod, it's the mod where if you cut down a tree with an axe then all the wood blocks above it fall, if you don't use an axe then it behaves as normal.

I've been using the finder compass in single player, but it does make things a bit too easy.

Maybe some form od enchanting mod, atm enchanting is wayyyyyyy to random.
The time it takes to build up the xp to do high level enchanting long, even with a xp farm it take a good while too build up 40+ bars of xp
yet the bonus you get is so random, I've had the same bonus spending 40+ xp that I've got from 20 something.
There's EasyEenchant but that's too easy.
Wouldn't be so bad if the bonuses you got where revealed each time, for future enchantment.
Also not loseing the enchantments when you repair an item, that's really annoying too.

Whilst that looks like a very interesting distro, I would not want to run it on our virtualisation platform without properly testing it, and I don't have time to do that right now.

I will be using Bukkit again, McMyAdmin was nice, but not feasible with an 8 person limit.

I'll look into those mods soon, the main part is getting the permissions right again. Since Bukkit is changing heavily right now, using a mod from the old 1.1 build (currently recommended) might not work in the new build which supports 1.2.

Basically, if I build the server now, it would have to be 1.1, any mods I use may not work in 1.2 when Bukkit gets updated. So it's a risk I waste time, or wait for 1.2 to come out with working mods.

I will keep you all updated. In the mean time, if you still have an interest to play on the server again, please PM me your Minecraft username, all the old PM's had to be removed coz I ran out of space and the problem with the old server caused me to lose them all. This time, I will keep better backups to avoid this happening!

    Re: Minecraft?

is that bukkit 1.2 or minecraft 1.2?
I ask because while 1.2.3 is just bug fixes 1.2 was some major changes, eg world height doubled, jungle biome added, new mobs and new mob ai

I'll wait for minecraft 1.2 server (my single player is still only 1.1 because I don't want to have to start yet again.)

Fantastic game. Been having a lot of fun with RedPower 2, IndustrialCraft 2 and Buildcraft lately, building nuclear reactors. Resisted mods for ages but finally gave in and it really opened up whole new dimensions.
