    Minecraft?

A quick search on here and I couldn't find a reference to underground gaming hit "MineCraft" - is anyone else playing this? http://www.minecraft.net/

It's really very odd - strangely compelling and massively retro in style. I've paid up for it (it's cheap whilst in beta) based on my experience so far.. My initial impression was "crap graphics, meh" but once you start digging (literally as it turns out) you start to "get" the whole thing.

The devs blog is here: http://notch.tumblr.com/

He's sold a lot of copies - enough to start a company believe it or not!

    Re: Minecraft?

Yeah, I picked it up over the weekend whilst it was free (I suppose it technically still is at the moment if I don't connect). I know what you mean about it being oddly good fun. The multiplayer aspect sounds like more fun. It reminds me of an old MMO set in Egypt (called Nile or something I think?) for some reason.

    Re: Minecraft?

Yeah been playing with this game for months, a few friends also, been messing about recently trying to get our own little minecraft server going but having no joy with it as its buggy as hell.

Single player is great though Currently got forts all over the place atm to survive the night time creatures that come after you

    A Tale in the Desert?

I've got a bit hooked on Minecraft, really good fun; wrote up a quick guide on surviving your first night, if anyone needs a basic introduction.

I've done that! Also nearly drowned myself in lava a couple of times by digging under it. The compass does really help (you need some red-dust stuff though).

    Re: Minecraft?

I have seen some videos of the game, think I may well buy it!

If you want some videos that are generally funny-ish to watch and show some stuff about the game, search for SeaNanners on YouTube, or atleast I think thats his name.

    Re: Minecraft?

Been running my own server for a few days for myself and a few friends. The server side of the project is buggy to say the least. Half the time you log into it and you can't mine or build, you destroy the blocks and they come back xD Great game single player but in multiplayer when you have yourself and around 10 other friends you can build like no tomorrow. So far we have an airport in there, building a pirate ship on one of the coasts and our base at night is a huge medieval castle so far

    Re: Minecraft?

    Bit of a bump.

This has now hit 1m sales (wow, best selling indie game maybe?), and yet still people aren't posting on Hexus about it that much. So does anyone here still play regularly?

I keep stopping and starting and generating new maps, can't seem to keep going on one map for some reason. Maybe because my building skills are laclustre, but the new stuff being added keeps me coming back for more.

    Re: Minecraft?

Still playing it myself, although I noticed when I went from the Alpha to the Beta that it saved my world but my buildings and mines had gone. Not a problem though, its just given me yet another excuse to spend even more time in it building a newer, better world
