    Not so much anymore.

A recent court ruling decided that even if it were a downloaded purchase you have the legal right to sell on the games that you no longer want.

Looks like steam and D2D and such are going to have to implement the ability to transfer games to another account or risk legal problems.

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

It really depends on whats the cheaper option, and then when you do buy the game you've got to apply it to something like Steam or Origin anyway.

I prefer to buy games, but if the price difference was big I would consider downloading.

For me it's very dependent on price. However, I can sometimes be a sucker for impulse buys on Steam.

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

I just realized that I replied but did not actually give my position on this.

If it is something complicated like a sim that you would need the manual for then I would buy it from a store.

Everything else is download simply because the price is usually cheaper and on a 120mb connection I can usually download even the biggest of games in minutes.

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

On consoles, has to be a physical copy so that I always have the option of reselling, but for PC- way quicker and cheaper just to buy on Steam or other equivalents

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

For PCs and consoles I would rather physical copies.

You don't always know your getting a genuine copy when you download, nor can you always prove you bought it if something goes wrong. E.g HDD corrupt with PCs

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

PC: Retail (boxed) games used to be better due to the fact that you could resell them. It's rarely the case these days though because you end up having to create some kind of online account which the serial key gets locked to so no one else can use your copy of the game. Since this has been the case I've just started buying all my games on steam.

As for consoles: Retail copies are always better because you can sell them on, apart from a small amount of games. Last time I had a console I think it was just EA and THQ that were doing the serial key thing. I'm sure there's probably more companies but I'm not really to sure of the state of things.

I always prefer a physical copy but I've just bought The Hitman Collection and the Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack off Steam. Nine games in all as well as the two DLC packs for GTA 4, all for around £9. If I could get physical copies for a similar price, I would but you just can't go wrong for that price.

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

I was always a physical copy only man but with the recent Steam sales and PS+ discounts on the PS3 I've been finding myself buying my digital content than ever.
If its a decent price I'll buy the digital version, new titles I tend to buy the retail.

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

The only game I've recently found to be cheaper on disc was Mass Effect 3.

    For PC that is.

Re: Download a game or buy it in the store?

I haven't bought a game in a store in probably about 3 years, instead I've used steam and when I've been forced to (I'm looking at you Battlefield 3) Origin.
