I love Battlefield 2, and Oblivion is also good.
Farcry is a bit old now but still good.

Oh right I'm sorry, I though he was looking for components for his system, d'oh! Anyway, you'll never use all that power in games for ages so it's not bad at all

If your into your racing (to be honest its the only type of game I play on my PC nowadays, everything else gets played on my Xbox) then GTR and GT Legends are both excellent and the forthcoming GTR2 looks as though it will push the old hardware nicely, hence why i'm looking to do a comprehensive upgrade in the coming months. If single seaters are more your bag then F1 Challenge 99-02 is good, and although it's been around for a while there is good support on the 'net for MODs and other graphical updates, same goes with the sublime and completely unparralelled Grand Prix Legends, 8 years old now but looking better than ever with seemingly more community support than ever with the recent release of the excllent 1969 MOD.

Pressure - ignore these lot telling you you should have waited.

No matter what you buy, there'll always be someone somewhere telling you you've done the wrong thing. Fact of the matter is, it *is* a kickass system, and it's not going to stop being a kickass system in three weeks time.

    PS - I hate you ;-)

What he really wants are games that he can make consolers envious about

Oblivion is one - as even the X360 version doesn't look as good as the high end PC one - make sure to get the texture/LOD mods as they make it look even better.

FEAR is another good one for short bursts of combat action for the wow factor.

Source engine games might not always look the best, but as soon as you start playing them you'll see the whole experience is usually very good - certainly puts mouse + keyboard control in a good light!

Quake 4 is a bit old these days, but some people think it looks nice.

Far cry looks better than it's ever done, with the newer patches adding HDR support (make sure to enable it via the console).

Eve online looks good, as does X3 (space based).

Some of the MMORPGs look quite nice too.

That is going to be some system, and if you really want to blow your console mates away then OBLIVION is the way to do it, i'd be confident that your system could run pretty much full whack, and if you look in the latest Custom PC there is an article to make it look even bette, Good luck with your new rig ..........................

The anticipation must be killing you, when does it arrive???

NONONO! Not FEAR, it's a pile of crap. Looks very nice, I thought it was OK the first time through, havn't touched it since. (ok so it's not a pile of crap, it's just horribly overhyped by people, people are making it out to be something as amazing as HL2 ).

Depends what games you like, I wouldn't really focus on amazing grapahics here, most modern games should have decent enough stuff.

    If you like FPSes;
Battlefield 2 for it's amazing online play
Call of Duty 2 looks very nice and is also pretty fun online
Half Life 2, you must get it

Oh yes of course, show off Oblivion to them, no where near as good as morrowind but still pretty cool.

X3: THe Threat has some incredible graphics, game isb't fantastic though (it's a space flughty sim game where you can go around blowing up priates, pirate yourself and trade and stuff)

If you're a bit of a strategy nut, try out Rome Total War, Civ IV is good if you like TBS and Dawn of War's graphics are still very good considering it's age.

I wouldn't feel too bad about getting AM2, the gaming benchies where Conroe is getting 20% higher results were at low res. If you're playing at 1600x1200 or higher (30" dell?) then you will not see more than 5% performance IMO.

There's a new space game freelance stylee coming out, demo is available - get it!: DarkStar. It looks really nice.

But otherwise, NFS-Most Wanted, Oblivion, FEAR, Quake4, all nice looking games with good features to show off your card. BF series is good, new one should be out soon.

I would go with FEAR , HL2 and BF2 like many have said.

On the racing front, you try rFactor (looks awesome at full details with max AA and AF).

Also GTL (GT Legends, uses same graphics engine as rF) is good one; great track moddeling.

Lastly, NASCAR racing 2003 is generally considered to be the best racing game ever released for PC. Theres the GTP mod, so if you dont want to race NASCAR, then theses are great cars. Physics are spot on and the graphics are top notch, even for an old game. Loads of track mods too. Only problem is that its a little hard to get hold of.

Is there a demo for rFactor? It looks really good but I want to try it out before spending £25 on it.

There is only a multiplayer demo which was released as a sort of beta. There is an update for it too, not sure if there will be any servers for it though. I dont think they are planning on releasing an offline demo unfortunatly.
